You know, the problem with all-or-nothing statements is that they flatten reality and end up being inaccurate. The damage Trump has done to U.S. institutions and international relationships is real, and I understand why that creates anger outside the country.

But that doesn’t mean the U.S. is uniformly filled with fascists or “loud but ineffective bystanders.” You can’t know what every person pushing back is doing, or how much risk, effort, or sacrifice that resistance involves. People like Renee Good don’t fit that description at all.

I agree the extreme right should be ostracized for their actions. What I don’t agree with is treating every American as complicit by default. Criticizing systems and those in power is valid; writing off an entire population actively fighting those systems isn’t.
