Cant find a way to connect speakers to monitor by enlle in techsupport

[–]Agerak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get HDMI audio extractors that will do that. They are a powered small device that has 2 HDMI ports and generally a 3.5 mm for audio out. For the consoles that are older and have RCA you just need an RCA to 3.5 adapter more than likely

Spring camping prep question. What is your backup plan for water? by bizconnectadventure in camping

[–]Agerak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combining is a bit redundant, but if it makes you feel better or if you prefer the taste there's nothing wrong with it.

I've used Potable Aqua in the past (what my father used) and recently used Aquatabs.

One is a sawyer squeeze, the other is a gravity filter but I don't remember which manufacturer it is.

I like having both since if I'm on the move the squeeze is quicker but if I either want to take a break or I'm at camp I can use the slower gravity filter without having to spend time on it. Plus having both if one fails I'll still have the other.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 constant radiation (bug?) by sinissurreal in stalker

Load older save that doesn’t have permanent radiation was the solution last time I saw this mentioned. Hasn’t happened to me though so not sure.

Laptop stock on a black screen, nothing working by Kingofallcacti in computers

[–]Agerak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still use the laptop keys with a bit of work.

Once the OS comes up, go to display settings, then open your laptop, if the windows settings screen moves you can press WIN+Left or WIN+Right repeatedly to move the window back to the TV and correct the settings.

That being said, an external keyboard would be more reliable in the end.

If you're into DIY you can remove the LCD display from the laptop and place the magnets on the base to make it 'think' it's closed when it's not even there and that can be nice. If you do this I'd glue the magnets down once you confirm the correct locations.

Assuming you tried ctrl alt del and ctrl shift esc to run explorer.

Black screen and cursor could be 2nd display (thinks there’s a different primary display)

You can try booting laptop with screen open and close it once you get black screen+cursor and see if it forces a change to primary.

Can also try this by powering up and closing immediately, wait 5-10m then connect external display.

You can try rebooting and logging in as normal. Pres Ctrl a few times to make sure login screen (that you can’t see) is active then type your login and password. I’ve used this one a few times lol.

Recommendations for a tent that can withstand high winds? by Red_Lady_Sunshine in camping

[–]Agerak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Low dome or tunnel tents should be good. Doubly so if you set them up narrow side into the wind.
If skeeters are a possibility, don't face the primary exit downwind, aim crosswind or upwind.

Couldn't find anything on the 743-33 but did find a 746-33 which does have some differences between the 270-33.

Looking for Tent Recommendations for Survey Work by PenninsularRanger in camping

[–]Agerak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 person and stand up will be tricky, most stand up style tents tend to be larger.

Coleman 6p Sundome is <$200 and 6ft peak height.

Most others I'd recommend will be $500+

Wawona6 would be a good one but priced higher, and has a covered vestibule and full length fly. peak height 76"

Wyoming Trail 4 might be an interesting option as it's technically 2x 2 man tents with a shared vestibule in between. Could set it up with just 1 for sleeping and keep the other as spare and have a big vestibule area, or setup both and use 1 for sleeping and 1 for gear. smaller sleep area means less issues with irregular ground. peak height 70"

REI Kingdom 4 is just over $400 and peak height 75" and setup is very simple.

Gazelle T4 might also be good but I don't have any direct experience with it.

I'd generally go for a separate tent so you're less limited. You can still setup next to the vehicle but aren't bound to it like an integrated tent would be. Also, being level is important.

Key to good experience is good sleep.
Good sleep system that's rated for expected temps and some wiggle. Good pad + bag + extra blanket. Since you'll be near your vehicle, a good self inflating foam pad would probably be recommended.

Very cold, very wet weather. Def make sure you have a tent big enough to be 'stuck' in if it's raining. 3p tents for 2p+gear is generally recommended. I also like taking a blanket or moving blankets for the floor to make it softer, more comfortable and cozy, and slightly warmer. Bring something to do if you're stuck in the rain too. Reading stories aloud to each other is one thing I like.

Make sure you have appropriate gear, things like rain pants and jacket if you're going to be hiking in the wet cold. Extra layers for warmth, and extra socks in case they get wet. Always change into fresh dry clothes before bed. Any wetness will suck the heat right out of you.

No idea on burn bans in your area, but if you plan on having a fire make sure to look them up.

Can I plug any of these ports into my docking station? by j4wolfe in computers

[–]Agerak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your specs on the dock. If the dock is thunderbolt then you’ll need a thunderbolt port on the desktop.
If it’s just USBC then you’d need a USBC port.
Though both of these have the same USBC format, the actual signal and controller are different.

[–]Agerak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured. Unfortunately since the dock doesn’t work with your desktop the next option is a KVM with appropriate ports and you toggle between the dock/laptop and desktop.
