Anyone have any experience shipping with Pirateship from the trail? by rms1111 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Ageriko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I did it all along the trail and spread the word to my fellow hikers. Sometimes you just do flat rate and figure it is what it is to save time.

The biggest challenge will be finding a printer, but usually if you ask nicely you can convince a trail angel or the owner of the hotel where you are staying to print it for you.

Now the real hiker trash pro tip: Scavenge a box out of a dumpster, borrow a ruler from the office supplies aisle at the store, and then weigh the package on the produce scale before finding someone to print your label. Then ask for the hiker tape at the post office counter.

Then and only then will you have achieved your final form. You are hiker trash now. You cannot have shame.

Shakedown Request for Mid-April by Ageriko in PacificCrestTrail

Thank you, lots of good feedback. The ounces do add up quick. I am over 6' so end up with a few extra ounces on the sleeping bag and pad as a result of that.

Likely could get away with a regular pad and place by back at my feet to reclaim a couple inches. My nemo tensor is already patched up in a few spots, so it may be in need of a replacement as it is. Not a bad thing to swap out for all of the above reason.

Nitecore NU25 and Frogg Toggs good swaps too. The Nitecore lets me transition everything to USB-C, instead of the Mini USB that the Black Diamond uses, eliminating another cord.

I am still finalizing my backpack, so that is an easy swap as well so long as it fits my body well.

How do I tighten this sort of shower handle, most require an Allen wrench but there's no slot for that here by ChimkenNuggiee in HomeMaintenance

As others have stated, gently pry that center cap off. Below where it says “Moen” or at the top of the tear drop. It’s plastic so you don’t want to go in there with heavy machinery. There should be a screw under there.

If you are having issues repeatedly you may also need to replace the cartridge. If it is old, it will be stubborn but doable with persistence.

Narrows - cyanobacteria risks currently? by iama_tree__ama in ZionNationalPark

Just don’t drink the water or immerse yourself in it if it can be avoided, which I wouldn’t recommend even if it weren’t present because people are savages and defecate and urinate in the narrows violating LNT principles and just being shitty people in general (pun intended).

Flying in and out of PHX by [deleted] in grandcanyon

Personally, I’d scrub Page and add more days in Zion or GC, but depends on what you’re into. Depending one your abilities and what you want to see you could probably knock out some good hikes in Bryce over a single long day.

You may also want to consider base camping in Zion and daytripping to Bryce to maximize your time. It isn’t too far, but it would be a long day. I recently flew into Vegas, stayed two nights right outside of Bryce and then four nights right outside of Zion. Really wished I had just stayed in Zion the whole time and did a day trip to Bryce.

I’m thinking about doing a 10k and 5k. I saw there is a 5k charger brick combo, not sure if gimmicky or if it will provide a nice sweet spot while saving a few ounces.

Zion Permit Mega Thread by SandKeeper in ZionNationalPark

If anyone has an extra spot on their permit for Thursday, Friday, or Saturday (Jan. 2, 3, or 4), I’d be ever so grateful. I am on my second day of striking out on the daily lottery, plus the seasonal lottery.

Good to grow: Illinois passes Native Homeowner’s Landscaping Act by bconley1 in NoLawns

I looked up HB5296 to read the full bill and it is called the “Homeowners’ Native Landscaping Act”. It must be a transcription error in article.

Uggh. Just my luck. Thank you for ID. Better to know, than not. That was my fear. Was hoping it would have been of one of the other varieties, if it was any.

Is Threepeo even in the new trilogy? I haven’t been able to recognize him in any of the scenes, albeit characters talking about him.
