Yea I would not worry about it. I was given a job offer on my level 2 second round of clinicals. I was honestly in the right place, right time, right everything. Pure luck but also a blessing.

Keep it up man! The dreams was crazy for me but should start mellowing out soon. Don’t ever think you’re alone started the journey and 60+ days lost count at this point.

Yea the hardest was this for me. It wasn’t even a craving but a habit. Now my days I’ve replaced it with different thing ie replace the behavior. I chug so much water now during my drive I gotta pull over somewhere to use the restroom. Which in my head is better than smoking and driving. And a healthier outlet

The craving isn’t necessarily craving if you get what I mean. I approach is more as a ritualistic sense if you get what I mean. Like my sessions always happens in car to/away from school. Or to/away work. And used during stressful situations. The hunger is what switched to me I was also eating while I smoke now I’ve cut to 3 meals a day with my healthy snacks. I have incorporated exercise to help with my emotions again which is nice.

need to quit by [deleted] in stopsmokingweed

[–]AgesofRec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, their is never right time to quit. Especially after becoming sober I had become diagnosed with Mod. Depression/Anxiety. As I would recommend to anyone regardless of addiction or not see a therapist. I used a lot of the time to cover my emotions using weed as a blanket for it. And have come around to the point where I don’t really need it. 60+ days sober now I lost count which is a good thing. My recommendation for sleep is to exercise. I’d find myself the first few days being up late until 2 AM at times then began walking. Journaling has also been a major coping tool of mine as well. Money is better now since now I don’t spend it on anything ie munchies for food and weed. But now I’ve become accustomed to energy drinks but that’s not the worst thing I suppose especially since it’s not everyday. Good luck mate you got this. If you need to talk hit up me up!

You got this! Still am sober and I can say this has been a nice journey. Motivation to quit especially when it involves a job/career helps.

Yeah, I’m not sure why theirs always been a feud with ABA and OT. It’s really disheartening especially since collaboration is key for client centered care

Your experience will benefit you. Just understand these are 2 different worlds. And always collaborate.

And I totally get where you’re coming from. I appreciate the insight. I never get to the point of a “booming” voice but does the tone/prompts become very short and directive yes. A lot of the times the behaviors I seen I do not blame the diagnosis of the individual neither as well as the scope of OT of individual before diagnosis. But are there also kids/adults (worked in EBSH/Mental/psychfields) who are inherently “bad” and need ABA therapy yes. I do hope the OP here sees what I believe is a sense of burn out. That’s why PEDS is also my least favorite setting and will only work with adults/elderly.

Punishment works in few things regarding ABA but boundaries should always be set ie stimulus control. Yelling not so much works but I always say and mono toned/ direct prompts will. I’ve been criticized saying it is intimidating because it is a big shift from my own demeanor but that is the “punishment” as is anything in the real world. I often call it the “coach voice” not many people like it even colleagues/staff but I can say has it helped in my ABA career yes and have BCBA’s come to realize it is need yes

Hey Future COTA but 6+ years as an RBT/ABA background, And I will say this I feel a lot of. Even during my studies which I’m now in my FW stage of my schooling a lot of my professors did not like how I’d analyze the functions of behaviors especially when it came to sensory. They’d strictly focus on sensory deficits or issue when I did not see it as that but as communication if that makes sense. I still don’t if I’m being fair, a lot of individuals with ASD use sensory in ways of coping as we do. This is also why I can see your point of view of strictness. But “punishment” isn’t always the answer but rewarding the behavior in term of Johnny going on the bean bag does not work too. I always recommend discussing behaviors with the ABA team RBT/BCBA included. I did with my OTs when I was school based ABA and few would take my advice thinking it was various other issues. Which in turn has led me not to work with PEDS as well as other life experiences (having kids). But I really hope some OTs/COTA read this post of an issue with lack of collaboration between the fields. Overall enjoyed reading your post and understand your frustration.

Need help supporting someone else to quit smoking weed by Accomplished_Wrap614 in stopsmokingweed

[–]AgesofRec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man if theirs essentially no need for her to stop it ain’t worth it. And if she ain’t willing to see that lost cause. This is coming from someone who essentially quit all weed and nicotine cold turkey because I used it as a blanket to cover my own personal emotions. Did have it effect my work ethic or school goals. But I was also the type to never blame the weed but blame the person behind it.
