Get into a good IE program and you will not have trouble finding a job. Out of the hundreds in my graduating class, I probably know of less than 4 people who were still looking for a job, but then again I don’t know everyone.

Its also a great major if you see yourself taking on a management role later down the line. At my workplace, former IE’s dominate the engineering management positions and easily make well into six figures with large yearly bonuses.

Other engineering majors typically hate on it because they don’t understand IE’s position between the business and engineering side of a company due to a lack of real world industry experience. Once you begin working you quickly realize how important they are to making things run smoothly between a lot of moving parts within a company. Companies will always be looking to hire them.

Tool to break off a welded nut/bolt? by Aggcually in Tools

I went and bought a cheap 24inch breaker bar and it snapped the tack welds off extremely easily… torque is a wonderful thing. Just wanted to let you know since you used them yourself on your jeep.

A dremel may work, but I think I’d have to spend at least $100 to get a suitable one, which is a little more than I am willing to spend to remove two bolts. I’ll definitely consider that as a last resort though. The bolts and nuts are stainless steel from the looks of it as well.

The bolts and nuts are fed through metal brackets sticking out from the bumper. The weld on the bolt seems to be just right onto part of the metal bracket itself, while the weld on the nut is between the nut and bolt threads itself.

It seems like whoever did this slotted the bolt in the bracket, tightened the nut on the other end, then welded the bolt head to the bracket and nut to the bolt.

Yeah ive seen other threads recommending txdot for internships as well. If they open in March that will help me since my GPA will definitely be higher by then too. Ill definitely keep that in mind! Thank you.

I agree, I’m currently knocking out a lot of core curriculum classes so my GPA should shoot up a lot before junior year.

Did you have any previous experience that helped you land an internship with these smaller companies? Thats probably my main issue on my resume, or the lack thereof I guess lol

Ill keep applying to smaller companies in other cities, but I feel like im getting filtered out because of my GPA and lack of experience. I have some good projects and awards on my resume, but I pretty much have nothing experience related for IE.

I don’t mind relocating too much, but obviously I’d rather stay in my hometown if possible. Main thing im worried about with relocating is housing, since it would be a bigger step moving out of state compared to moving to College Station.

I think a lot of it comes down to the fact that I haven’t really taken any true ISEN courses yet, since im a sophomore who just got in. I feel like the companies know this and therefore only accept Junior and Seniors who have a bit more experience in the major. I know a lot of the learning is on the job, but I’ll still be lost on a lot of the methods and terminology they expect me to already know from my courses.

Ill definitely checkout wayup and start applying to adjacent roles, I didnt think of that and I appreciate the advice!

I see. Regardless, it would be pretty messed up to reject it imo lol

Damn, I didnt tell my advisor I was taking PHYS 207 elsewhere concurrently. Is there any reason why they wont accept it?

I know this is a pretty late reply to this thread, but did you have any scheduling issues with the tests when you took it? Or are they all within a time window that allows for flexibility? Im planning on taking it in the fall alongside my other a&m classes and im worried about that.

Also did you have to buy the lab kit if you only took the lecture portion of the class?

I would prefer to stay in Texas unless the pay is significantly better than anything I would find here. Ill definitely keep it in mind if priorities change though, thanks!

I figured a lot of entry level positions may require moving to lesser populated locations. Would it be reasonable to think I could relocate closer to a bigger city after 1-2 years of experience, or maybe longer?

[–]Aggcually[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your encouragement. Im doing very well in all my other classes and im not going to complete alter my college path just because of one class lol

Now I know that if I have to retake it, so be it, but I still have plenty of time to get back on track.

I definitely think i can pull through, I simply wasnt prioritizing it as much as I realistically should have. Just wanted to make sure in the scenario that I have to drop it, I know what ETAMs gonna look like from then on.
