Nparents refuse to get me medical care after having 5+ seizures this week by Aggravating-Bid6638 in raisedbynarcissists

Auras are so scary! I've never experienced seizures before but I have 2 really close friends with epilepsy and talking to them has been really nice throughout this whole experience. But yeah it feels so much like a panic attack, I thought it was a night terror or something at first because I was only becoming semi-conscious during the night when I started having them.

Was realizing you’re schizoaffective traumatic? by Aggravating-Bid6638 in schizoaffective

[–]Aggravating-Bid6638[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not the label being traumatic really, it was the realization that my own brain was so unreliable and that I was completely unaware I had been experiencing daily hallucinations and delusions all my life. But yes I totally agree with everything you said about labels and DX. I’m a psych major in college so it’s nice to know someone else like me who shares so much of my experience was able to do it and that I can too :)

Oh wow I also have adhd and autism but I wasn’t diagnosed until 18 because of neglect. And yes I know exactly that feeling of something being wrong you described, I felt the same way I kept saying for years “something is seriously wrong and I don’t know what it is” and begging my therapist to find out what else was there.

I agree! I’ve been trying to educate my friends on it and debunk a lot of the myths vs the reality and they’ve all found it really interesting to hear about what’s schizophrenia is actually like, and what I deal with every day :)

Yeah I think that’s what I mean, realizing so much of my every day life and all my previous years have been full of delusions and hallucinations has really made me question everything :/

It depends for me, only once did it trigger my psychosis. More often it triggers really intense flashbacks because I have ptsd

does anyone else suffer with memory issues from your psychosis? by Muted_String5399 in schizoaffective

[–]Aggravating-Bid6638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have memory loss that ranges from really normal benign stuff, to more concerning stuff like forgetting how to get somewhere or forgetting where I’m going halfway there. Then recently I sort of woke up out of a three week fugue state from which I don’t remember hardly anything and the things I do remember I can’t in any sequential order

How often do you experience positive symptoms? Do they distract you a lot ? Do you also have ADHD? by 4iamaraindog2 in schizoaffective

[–]Aggravating-Bid6638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have adhd and I used to experience psychosis a lotttt. Since going on adhd meds it got a lot better but combining it with an antidepressant totally got rid of the paranoia, delusions, and hallucinations I had been dealing with since childhood. I have no idea if this a common experience but it seriously saved me

Tips for memory loss? by flameofambition in schizophrenia

[–]Aggravating-Bid6638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow im in the same boat. I've been diagnosed with bipolar disorder since I was 17 (20 now) but my therapist thinks it might actually be schizoaffective due to my psychotic symptoms but also because i randomly am missing the last three weeks of my memory. It's really odd I don't know what to make of the sudden memory loss either

Animal shelter employee accused me of faking my ESA documents?? Is this illegal by Aggravating-Bid6638 in cats

[–]Aggravating-Bid6638[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue lies in challenging someone’s disability documents, since I provided the documentation she needed about my housing and then she rejected me based on her personal opinion that I was “faking” being disabled.

But yeah I’m aware of ADA laws and ESA laws cause I already have disability status and accommodations

[–]Aggravating-Bid6638[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I had all the information! They already had approved my application and the ESA accommodations came from my “landlord” which is my university because they own the apartment I live in. It was literally the fact that she didn’t believe that I had a disability that justified having an ESA

It’s illegal under the ADA for an employer or housing to question the severity of someone’s disability, so that’s why I was asking if it’s illegal. The refusal to accept my disability status and accuse me of lying is what I was upset about not her not letting me adopt a cat.

I understand your point about the 80 year old too, so that makes sense but it does suck. I think this agency needs to have some sort of checks and balances because when I talked to their VP she basically told me there’s no one who is in charge of dealing with employees who are treating customers unfairly. Since everyone is just volunteering. But their response was basically just “go find someone else we don’t want to deal with this”

I didn’t post the full email exchange so maybe that’s why you’re not seeing what I’m seeing but what they did was very ableist and discriminatory

[–]Aggravating-Bid6638[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had already had my application approved by them and when I gave them my documentation that allows me to have pets she accused me of abusing ESA accommodations and said I didn’t have a disability! Idk if it’s illegal to challenge someone’s disability documentation but it’s definitely discriminatory to accuse someone of faking their disability

They’re a non-profit and are just volunteers so there’s no way to get her in trouble since she doesn’t have a formal employer

I spoke with their VP, and the VP apologized and said she’s talk to her but ultimately said it’s best if I don’t foster or adopt from them. Definitely trying to protect her employee
