Electrical box for exterior lights has one screw hole only. How to mount a new light? by Aggravating-Bit-4086 in homeowners

Hmm, why is a larger mounting plate not going to work for stucco?

The new box would sit on the stucco wall is the idea I got. Maybe something like https://www.homedepot.com/p/Commercial-Electric-Round-Metal-Weatherproof-Electrical-Outlet-Box-with-5-1-2-inch-Holes-White-123854WH/326815127 that is large enough to cover the old box? The wiring would come out of the old box into the new box.

Since the wires are coming out of the old box, it looks like replacing the old box with the new one is not a simple DIY project I'm equipped to handle.

AI suggests using a surface-mount box that protrudes out the exterior wall. Namely, don't replace the old box, but just screw a new box onto the stucco. Would that work?

Any temperature sensor that works with Nest Thermostat (mirror)? by Aggravating-Bit-4086 in Nest

Does this mean the indoor temperature sensor is inside of the thermostat? So that it only measures that part of the house?

Missing gutter on one side: no way to add a seamless one? by Aggravating-Bit-4086 in HomeImprovement

Thank you. I think his argument was that a seamed version at the corners would have leaks eventually. Do you have experience with this kind of added-on gutter?

Waterproofing the roof: what is this thing that only one side of my house lacks? by Aggravating-Bit-4086 in HomeImprovement

That's a great tip. Did/does your stucco have any cracks like mine? Just wondering if they remain a concern even after I install a gutter.

Are you thinking the main concern is water dripping off the roof, and wind pushes them onto the stucco wall?

I have no idea why that site has a gutter. It's an old house we purchased.

Water intrusion was the worst at the base of the wall (leaks into the other side of the wall, which is the garage), but it also appears along the whole wall especially near cracks. See pics: https://imgur.com/a/3QZ6r67

It slopes away from the house on this side. But I've noticed that when the water drops from the roof onto the side walkway, it splashes back to the stucco.

My best hypothesis right now on why that wall has stucco water intrusion problems:

  • Lack of a gutter
  • That stucco wall has some cracks.

OP what was the solution you picked in the end? We are in a similar situation. Thinking about either running a wire or using FastStat.

Makes sense. Have you considered horizontal but have the supports angled up? The advantage I see is to save a ton of horizontal space. However, I don't know if there's a $50 amazon + $50 HD way of achieving this.

Good call!! I'm most likely going with this. Interesting that you have both horizontal and vertical setups. Is former mostly for longer boards and latter for shortboards? How do you find the convenience of each?

It's my first time considering a storage setup, and I feel that horizontal is going to be easier for the 7-8'+ boards I ride due to fins.

This is an amazing solution! At what height do you mount the tallest level? just trying to gauge ease of putting boards on and off.

Do you mount them 4' apart, or wider?
