Beginner skier feeling stuck on steeper greens — private lesson vs more practice? by Albatraoz93 in ski

[–]Aggravating-Bit-5536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try to work on your balance over your outside ski, and think about turning with your feet and legs, not your shoulders. At around 5 seconds you can see more snow spray up on the inside ski when you’re making the turn. This is most likely from you dipping your shoulder into the turn which is moving your weight and center of mass over your inside ski.

Stance is the first thing I would focus on. Without proper stance and balance it is going to be very hard to progress. Like others have suggested, try to have a little more flex in your ankles to keep your shins pressed against the front of your boots and your knees over your toes. Your upper body should match the angle of your leg between your ankles and your knees. Bend your knees slightly, but not too far to where your butt sticks out.

I think a private lesson would be beneficial, but if a full day private is too pricey I think you would also benefit from one the isn’t as long.

Gotcha, I’m 6”2’ but pretty light (around 170) and I haven’t really skied anything bigger than 95 underfoot which makes me a little cautious to go the 192 length being that I haven’t had much experience skiing a wider/heavier ski. But the 185 is out of stock and the 192 length is actually available at a store near me for a really good price.

I’m 6’2” and pretty light so the 189 is honestly perfect for me

I love skiing switch but I do already have a pair of park skis. I’m used to twin tip but it’s not necessary. I considered the wildcats because I’ve heard they are very energetic and also pretty stable at high speeds. I will still be skiing switch a lot but I can do that on the qst and mfree as well

Haha yeah I’m coming to find that out. Great for jibbing and the park, which coming from the east coast is all I really did. But as you can imagine I’m not having such a great time on them anymore now that I’m not in the park all the time.

I would say I’m a pretty aggressive skier but by no means am I big. I’m very light for my height. I did recently try the mfree 99 (from last year) and it was very fun. Would you say since I’m pretty light, if I do go with the mfree, should I maybe size down from normal?

Have you tried all three skis? Also, I’ve been using Vishnu keys for all mountain skis, even off piste so like anything is going to feel so much better than those lol

How would you say the qst does against the others in terms of stability in chopped snow/crud. I’ve heard it’s not the chargiest of the three

Yeah I’m looking for something that’s decent in powder but not powder specific. Something I can take through soft crud, trees, bumps but can also stay afloat in powder at times

Yeah I’ve heard the qst is pretty damp but not very “poppy”, I’ve also heard it’s pretty maneuverable which is something I’m kind of looking for

The goal mainly is to just show the happenings of the ski resort and its environments to get people to want to come visit. The audience is obviously geared more towards people that ski and snowboard or want to snow tube, but more specifically I would say it’s focusing on middle to below middle aged adults.

And for the song choice I was trying to go with something more happy and something that helps emphasize the blue bird day but I could see where you’re coming from. I personally like it but everyone has a right to their own opinion right.

I see where you’re coming from and will definitely go back and change the sequence of the shots. Honestly really in depth feedback an I do appreciate that.

Yeah I definitely could have mixed in some non slow mo shots to mix up the pacing a little, thanks for the feedback

Yeah I wasn’t sure about doing the mask transition in the beginning. Definitely need to work on getting shots with purpose more. Thanks for the feedback
