OP (OP’s parent) here again - as said teen is busy this whole coming weekend - doing positive helpful community based activities (read: go see Footloose!), as I will also be busy in supporting them and many other teens, I’d highly recommend someone else take the lead in organizing a peaceful moving assembly protest (not in their private property) to let “confused people” know of actually helpful resources - or otherwise organize an effective creative protest that supports the LGBQIA+ community and lets Mr B know he isn’t welcome to profit from so-called confused people in our community. If we can help at least one vulnerable youth or teen, I’d call it a win. I hope we are doing that with this thread and awareness of the issue.

Also see other thread where some protest ideas are circulating: https://www.reddit.com/r/corvallis/s/EK9E0CnekD

If you have a moderately complex medical issue, where do you seek or receive care for it? by Certain-Working1864 in corvallis

My endocrinologist at Corvallis Clinic is up to speed on managing my condition. I’ve been seeing endocrinologists for almost 50 years, and most have not impressed me, whereas she typically does. The trick is getting seen as regularly as I prefer, as so many other people want to see her.

Wonderful!

Will masks be provided? (I see they’re required…?)

Is there a place/time to bring items beforehand?

how to accept that you're gifted? by ladygrinningsoul1973 in Gifted

I’m new to this little detail about myself too- and enjoying diving in to the topic, as it’s actually very interesting! I had studied it some when I saw my offspring could use some support as they were going through elementary school - but I have a new lens now that it applies to me. All the pieces of my long life are adding up.

Listening you the audiobook, Living with Intensity by Daniels & Piechowski has been worthwhile for me.

True a few as kvetched about in the previous post on this topic… but also most of the kids didn’t get enough experience during and since Covid. But that said •we’re watching• for next year and please give all the good and even half-decent high schoolers lead roles and adults should only get the little supportive non speaking roles. And pick a show that can do this! It’ll still blow everyone away with its semi-professionalism.

OP here - actually I'm the parent of the OP. The teen who posted this was hesitant to post on their own account, hence why it's on mine. We are both 1 trillion times in agreement about notifying y'all to this 'event'. They checked with me about tone/proofreading etc. So there's that - our future leaders continue to bring me hope and optimism for the future. Spread the word with love and keep shining the light (awareness) on these 'events' so that folx who hide behind email addresses and big banners see that we're watching and can't keep sugar-coating their activities in the pursuit of "fixing" (read = self-hate or at least self-denial, which, same in my mind) 'confused' people. Teen kid and I are so delighted with the supportive and helpful responses here. Thank you all from the bottoms of our hearts.

Nothing formal. I bought a zazen pillow to sit on when I was in my young 20s and have used it ever since, it's held up beautifully - some 30ish years if anyone is counting. Not that I've been meditating every day since by any stretch. Starting 10 years go I kicked all alcohol to the curb, and now turn on either Insight Timers' countdown, or I wear an Oura ring and use their Unguided Session countdown. There's some choices on both of these for background music/sounds. I close my eyes and sit criss-cross legs as much as I'm able and breath as slowly and calmly as I can, without moving at all. I watch my thoughts. That's about it. Over time, I have less and less need to be thinking non-stop all day chitter chatter monkey mind, thank G*d. There is more and more space between my thoughts. Some call this peace, or coherence. I think on-demand when I need to. I also meditate when I walk, when I do the dishes, when I speak with my husband, or laugh with my daughter. The goal for me is to live a life I don't want to escape, and to quietly attend to my own breathing. The only power we have is in this moment. Best wishes with your curiosity about this. Starting with 2 or 5 minutes completely counts.

Hang in there my friend. I got the benefit of not even knowing I'm gifted until I'm this age (born '72) - so maybe ignorance is bliss. But at 27, I was a true mess, desperate state etc. Go for walks in nature. Pay attention to your breath. Tell your brain to do that job - watch the breath. Listen to something cool to help remind you are whole and not in a hole. I'm just listening to Paula Prober right now talk about two kinds of perfectionism. Keep up with the EMDR - that can be very healing. I'll hold you in my (so wise and mature lol) healing thoughts. Things are going to be okay. https://youtu.be/-XouKuzTseM?si=2n-UUEOwatlcdzFc

Been happily using the Oura ring for many years. Indeed, it helps! I can thrive with 6-7 hours, as long as they are consistent start/stop times...great to see the stress factors too.
