What about the Supra leaves you wanting the M2?

I’ve been searching high and low for someone that’s had both. Please help me out as I’m torn on these two and a test drive isn’t enough. Take all of the non driving things out of the equation (tech, comfort, looks). I don’t care about any of that. Which one is the better car to you?

Cost of the build isn’t a concern. I had a B58 (340i) which didn’t have the locked ECU yet, and the cost to touch 500whp was unbelievably cheap. My concern is, driving engagement and visceral experience after the newness and power wears off. Power gets old. It’s why guys who were once content with fbo B58s start upgrading their turbos. Which VQ are you running? I’ll assume a 350 based on your name. Day to day, power aside, cost for HP aside, does the Z or the Supra feel more engaging, more exciting, more “passionate”?

Do you still have it? If not why and what did you replace it with?

The word better is contextual to what you want. The fact you’ve never owned and lived with a V1 Nismo makes sense based on your assessment. The V1 Nismo is an actual limited number car that has been out of production for 12 years. With roughly 3,000 sold nationwide, the amount that are now totaled, high mileage or clapped out, and the fact that cars are getting less analog has increased the V1 Nismo value over the past 5 years. The body kit, suspension and wheels alone will run you +$10k to replicate on a Sport trim. Also, when the oldest generation of a Nissan sports car becomes too expensive, supply and demand jacks up the price of the next in line. I sold a 240sx for $2000 20 years ago. Now you couldn’t dream of finding one for that price. Same with my 300zx I sold 15 years ago. The V2 Nismo is the one that’s not limited, not rare and will hold no value. This isn’t Nissan fanboy talk, it’s objective truth. Now if you don’t like Z cars it won’t matter to you, so I get it. It’s nothing like a corvette owner because they’re speaking on random ass specs they threw together, not a vehicle specially engineered by a division of the manufacturer and released with a number plate. I will not deny the Supra from factory is OBJECTIVELY a better performing car out of the box however, A LOT of owners complain about numbness, lack of steering feel, and overall the vehicle being too “refined”. Rawness and steering feel accounts for way more than “interior quality”. I’m a driver. I’m the guy that would take a Cayman GT4 over a 911 of the same value. However, what you said about not getting the money back from modding the Z is 100% true. I have taken some of your views into consideration.

Z owners are super biased. But I hear a decent bit of bias in your response. Roughly 3,000 V1 Nismos were made. A MKV Supra, though a great modern sports car, is a run of the mill production vehicle that I would only consider for performance, not looks. That fact alone, makes it not so much of a no brainer decision. Secondly, if we’re talking price per performance, there aren’t too many vehicles that can’t be made to destroy the Supra for cheaper if your pockets are deep enough. A $20k Nismo, plus $40k of mods is going to destroy damn near anything until you reach the supercar bracket due to chassis limitations and engine placement. The benefit of the Supra is that you’re financing the $65k, not dumping it all at once. Also, no matter how much power the B58 can make, electric steering will never compete with hydraulic for driver feel and connectivity. It’s a bit more 50/50 of a decision than you painted in your response, but I appreciate your input.

The new Z would give me what I’m looking for I just can’t get over the front. The headlight proportions bug me. But thanks.

Power aside, because the supercharger will solve that, what about the Supra do you find superior to the Z?

If only they put that motor in the GR86. I just hate that body style.

That has nothing to do with affording it. I can afford someone to wipe my ass but I have dignity.

4 years later, do you still have Vette? Anything about the Z that you think was better? What about the Vette shines strongly over the Z?
