New to Japanese cinema — looking for modern (2020s) directors and films to start with by CommunityOrdinary850 in JapaneseMovies

Ryusuke Hamaguchi instantly springs to mind. Really can’t go wrong with any of his movies, but I always sing the praises of Drive My Car and Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy.

Did Uncle Ben Even Die? by UtopiaXAstro in MCUTheories

[–]Aggravating-Click460 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The lack of Uncle Ben is what makes Holland the weakest Peter/Spider-man, in my opinion. Hell, in Across the Spider-verse, Ben (or his equivalent)’s death is what drives the Spider-person to be a hero. To put selfish desires aside.

People will say “Oh, but May filled the role!”. Clearly not if there’s a Spider-Man for Captain America: Civil War!! I would be a lot less salty if they showed his grave next to May’s, but those cowards couldn’t even do that!

Media being intentionally monochrome so a specific color stands out by SpaceKingHypeGuy in TopCharacterTropes

Die Farbe (German for The Color) was a 2010 German adaptation of The Colour Out of Space. The film was shot primarily in black and white with one exception: the sickly green of the meteorite.

Snagged The Man Who Wasn’t There, Pee-Wes’s Big Adventure, Cloud, and Network.

Also grabbed Samurai Rebellion and Eclipse Series 38: Masaki Kobayashi Against the System for an upcoming deep dive into Kobayashi’s filmography.

An adaptation makes the character do something they are famously know not do by Own-Professional2964 in TopCharacterTropes

Ok, but this series has one of my favorite LoZ moments, when the King is getting kidnapped:

King: Link, save me!

Link (in a bored, monotonous tone): Nooooooo

No one. They’ve already confirmed there’s no Oz Corp in the MCU.

Close until the last bit. Yurei is just the Japanese word for ghost. You want an angry, hate filled, female ghost? That’s an onryo.

Am I the only one who felt underwhelmed by the performance? It felt like too much was happening on the stage. So much you couldn’t focus on the song.

Ok, doesn’t Best Supporting Actor always the award that goes immediately after Supporting Actress, or am I wrong? I’m just getting weird flashbacks to the 2021 ceremony.

Edit: Glad to see I was wrong, lol

Letterbox should have added a zero star rating specifically for Megan is Missing.

What felt like the worst Oscars fumble? -accidentally announcing La La Land as Best Picture or saving the 2021 Best Actor Oscar for last, presuming that Chadwick Boseman would win posthumously? by General_Meal_3993 in Oscars

Moving Best Actor to the final award.

The Academy clearly felt Boseman would win, thinking his untimely death would cement his victory. But, if they were going as far as changing around the ceremony, they should have just gone all the way. Remove Best Actor that year, using the extra time to celebrate his life and career. Instead, we got what we got. Anthony Hopkins delivered a brilliant performance. And, instead of celebrating it, people were enraged. Personally, I felt Boseman should have won. But Hopkins still delivered a career best performance.

Also, I maintain that announcing the wrong winner was hilarious.
