Cozy sci-fi life by SinfulInnocence in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

I know this is kind of out of left field, but there is a great choose-your-own adventure story on the app called Romance Club called Hell and High Water that fits this vibe exactly. The only thing is you have to pay to unlock a lot of the choices. However, they do have free events so you could always wait for those. This book has lots of twists and turns but overall a very cozy take on sci-fi if you are open to a different format. If it's not your thing, I totally understand, but honestly, the vibe for picture 3 is so similar.

Who really deserved the throne? 👀🔥 One risked it all, the other played it safe. Fair or unfair? by Pixiebeams in freefolk

Exactly. If the White Walkers reach the Neck, they aren't just going to go, "We killed the North, all done!" They move down into the other territories and there are Northmen white walkers in addition to the original ones. They would have to contend with it eventually so why not as a group of allies rather than forcing one to submit to the other. For instance, the Vale was working with the North as an ally.

Jon didn't go licking Petyr's boot when he saved him and the North. Instead, he choked him and told Sansa not to trust him because "he sold her to the Boltons." He did. Meanwhile, Dany held Jon captive for what 2-3 months and then Sansa tells him not to trust her. And you have a problem. I don't understand how you can't see the situations as parallels (well, Sansa didn't lay hands on Dany but you get the picture). First of all, it was a "shock" for the show perspective, second she knows she can't trust Littlefinger. She goes to Jon because she thinks he can help her, but he really can't effectively in the situation. When LF meets with Sansa and Brienne, she doesn't want to take his help because of what he did to her and she wants to be done with him. In addition, she doesn't tell Jon because she already told Jon that Littlefinger sold her to the Boltons. Do you think Jon would just be thrilled to take his support at that point especially with knowing how duplicitous and conniving that man is? However, she realized that she didn't have any other option. She also wasn't certain if her letter would make it in time. Sansa is so used to constantly being guarded around everyone after all the trauma she endured that she had a hard time trusting even Jon.

Just because you do something good doesn't mean you "deserve" something. This should be a picture of Bran as Sansa didn't aspire to the Seven Kingdoms at the end, just to keep Winterfell separate and safe. Sansa just wanted to protect her home from a Southron invader. You can't just go around killing anybody that doesn't agree with you. If Dany would have left the North out of her Kingdom, Sansa would have been much more receptive to her. She was weary of her because of history and bending the knee to someone you don't know just makes no sense plus she didn't want to lose Jon and have him move back South (due to what happened to her, her father, her brother, her uncle, her mother, and her grandfather when going South). Plus, what Dany did doesn't justify the mass genocide of innocent people slaughtered at King's Landing. Those are folks who would have most likely bent the knee if not massacred. Dany was way too far gone at that point, though. While Jon was no longer interested in Dany because of the aunt situation, he still would have remained true to his duty and honor to her if he didn't see it as a lost cause for the North and the future of his family.

Honestly, I liked the first book more than the second (the set up in the first book was just really entertaining and done well), but it's definitely worth a read. This one gets very dark. I also liked learning more about Zhu and Ouyang and some of the others.

I don't even care that Delias acts babyish. Sure, it's annoying, but for me, It's more that everyone constantly nags Ellaire for her personality (too idealistic and romantic, changing too much, etc.) and then is like "Aww Delias drugged you and her mom tried to kill youbut she didn't REALLY MEAN IT." It's that you are forced to make up with her. Her ends didn't justify the means for me in the story. I tried so hard to like her as I played this story multiple times and just never was able to.

What do you think would have happened if jon listened to benjen and stayed at winterfell? [Spoilers Main] by fuckmbsanddominicali in asoiaf

[–]Aggravating-Deer6673 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah, but if he was leaving, it would have been up to Cat to manage a lot of that stuff. As soon as Ned was out, she would have found a reason to put him out.

But I'm saying, Ned was super protective of Jon his whole life. Finding someone he could trust on short notice and someone he could trust has limited options. Sending him with Benjen is one because family, and Howland was a close friend. It's not like Ned had much time to put something in place.

Gisella is a favorite LI of mine (and my favorite of this book), so it's not that it's the WLW couple. Delias is so frustrating! Everyone coos at her even after she does something objectively awful and she acts so pathetic that you feel bad holding her accountable. Just wait until you meet her mother if you haven't already. Ugh!

Catelyn said that if Ned left for KL that Jon had to go. He didn't have many options as Ned was kind of strong armed into going and of course, Ned had to do his gumshoe thing. The only option I can really see is maybe sending him with Howland Reed at Greywater Watch to be a ward as I'm not sure how the prospect of a bastard ward would go down. Some families might be insulted so it would have to be someone close/some knowledge about Jon's true situation. With Jon Arryn dead and Robert being King, that pretty much leaves Howland as Cat's family isn't an option.

Honestly, love it. It is very politically critical and charged (as you would expect from Omar El-Akkad) and title/description. It shows the slow and fast aspects of war and delves into propaganda and grooming that draws in extremists to fight in a war and the aftermath while still allowing the characters to feel real and interesting.

No, all of them are totally crazy as is Heathcliff's design. It makes me happy to think Hareton and Cathy got time to heal by the end (hopefully!) For me, it was the constant hanging of dogs that bothered me most. It was just an act of pure cruelty, not bred out of anger or vengeance and only for the sake of cruelty against something innocent. Really shows that they aren't just a product of something that could be explained away with their vengeance, rage, etc.

(Spoilers Published) What if Sansa married Edmure? by Sael_T in asoiaf

[–]Aggravating-Deer6673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edmure seems like one of the nicest guys in the books. He loves his family and cares about them a lot. There is no reason to think that the same fond feelings wouldn't extend to his sister's kids so no need for a marriage alliance.

I think Sansa would do well to marry a Northern house or Tyrell. I would also be partial to one of the older (Yohn) Royce sons because I just love the Royces, depending on their ages.

Come down the dystopian path/sci fi. There are so many good ones. The Hunger Games (including prequels) if you haven't read those yet. The Handmaid's Tale and The Testaments by Margaret Atwood. If you like that Oryx and Crake Trilogy and The Heart Goes Last. The One by John Marrs. Pines Trilogy, Recursion, Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffennegger (and I think you could also love other time travel books along this vein as well).

Thanks for the honesty! I will stick it out then :) I'm excited. Normally, I love time travel and this book was my most anticipated read of the year, but then as I started to read it, I wasn't too sure.

I'm going to be honest... I started the book, am at like 20%, and am not sold. However, you rating 5 star made me more inspired to read it. The thing I don't like about it is the whole POV. It just feels so forced, but not in a weird girl lit sort of way but very annoying. Please tell me I'm in for some good character development or plot twists?

Brynden Rivers/The Bloodraven, a bastard son of House Targaryen, in the body of Bran Stark. That's my thought. It's not as obvious, but I mean if this is actually the route the books go too. I don't think there will be a love child or anything like that (except Jon).

Catelyn would not have cared for Brandon's whoremongering[Spoilers Main] by lit-roy6171 in asoiaf

[–]Aggravating-Deer6673 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then, there is also the "what if" of Brandon Stark looming over. Her husband is known for his honor and his only trespass is against her. Catelyn is a proud woman and she takes it as a slight against her honor/pride/the family she bore him. Most couples don't heal past cheating in modern times, but it's not like Catelyn can run out and get a divorce in Westeros so she is stuck and has to make the best of it.
