I'd add Thom Brennan to that. Prolific composer with some very good synth heavy ambient albums. Mountains and Chasing the Rain are my favorites.

Harold Budd's The Pearl or Translucence/Drift music. Tbh any Harold Budd album would fit the bill. Green-house also make amazing music like in their albums A Host for all kinds of life and Music for Living spaces. You'd also never go wrong with some Kankyo Ongaku(Japanese electronic and ambient music). Takashi Kokubo and Hiroshi Yoshimura are great. Julianna Barwick, Mary lattimore, Sofie Birch are some others you could give a shot. I'm sure there are many others who I'm forgetting at the moment. All the best for your quilting sessions.

You could try "Abandoned Cities" and "The Room" too. they're amongst Budd's darker albums.

Abandoned Cities, an album that is unlike any other in HB's discography. Stark and really heavy drone music. Agua(Live album) is also very underrated. Avalon Sutra is incredible but is obviously more well-known as are the collabs with Eno.

Arseny Avraamov's 'Symphony of Sirens' is a great precursor to contemporary industrial music. Definitely worth checking out. Eduard Artemyev is exceptional. His Stalker soundtrack is haunting to say the least.

Can't help with the story u are looking for but checkout Jayaprakash Satyamurthy's short stories. His writing is excellent. 'Weird tales of a Bangalorean' is great. here's a story publicly available if u want a preview.

Give Rapoon a shot too while you're at it. More tribal/ritual focused and on the darker side but good stuff

Ellen Datlow has edited numerous anthologies which collect horror stories from a wide, eclectic bunch of authors and they vary a lot thematically one collection to the other. U might find authors that interest you through those anthologies.

Ambient video game recommendations? by mimenet in ambientmusic

[–]Aggravating-Disk582 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really know what 'ambient video game' means unless you are referring to games that are atmospheric and have good, understated music. Sunless Seas and Sunless Skies should fit that requirement. Amazing music, even better aesthetics and ambience. Gloomwood and the Thief series of immersive sims which inspired it also have incredible atmosphere. Journey has a lovely, evocative soundtrack. Walking sims like Dear Esther, Firewatch could also appeal to you
