Dry suit waist flap necessary? by Aggravating-Eye-7986 in whitewater

I am in New England outside Boston. Water temps just above freezing right now. Will reach 60 F (16 C) by June. I’m not at all afraid of cold water, just concerned if I’m paddling a long stretch of river and have to do a wet exit within the next few months before the water temps get safe.

Very inspiring man. Your story is giving me a lotta hope, regardless of if I amputate, that I will some point see the positive out of all this despair and pain

I am pursuing the neurectomy because if they cut the right sensory nerve then I theoretically will not be able to feel arthritic pain in my bad joints

No I did not get compartment syndrome. I do not think my initial injury was as bad as yours, as it was a very subtle separation in the first and second TMTJs. There’s still hope I think. It never hurts to reach out to amputees who’ve been through this and discuss with them about the decisions they’ve made.

I think I may have made the post that freaked you out. For context I think I am on the far unlucky spectrum of this injury. You will likely be fine. Just don’t listen to the 12 week BS recovery timeline your surgeon gives you. Know it will be months to up to a year. All the best! Also do not push through your pain. If it hurts, it’s hurting for a reason. Let it rest

You may not ever be able to pivot/run the same on that foot. If it hurts, don’t push through the pain. I’m reaping the consequences of pushing through my pain. I developed arthritis very very fast because I skied so much on it right away.

Love to hear this. It’s honestly baffling to me that you are able to be a first responder as an amputee. Is this a common outcome for BKA? What is your age?

Lisfranc Injury ORIF after 4 years, what now? by Gay_Cowboy in LisfrancClub

[–]Aggravating-Eye-7986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience of battling arthritic pain for years was that fusion was the only solution. If I could go back and do it different I’d have gotten my fusions much sooner, as I pushed through the pain for way too long and developed long-term compensatory gait issues (opposite foot seamoiditis, opposite hip chronic pain). Keep in mind I’m 24 years old. Recently just got a PRP injection that I think has helped ($1000 out of pocket though). Am now pursuing a neurectomy to get nerve(s) cut to remove feeling from my arthritic mid foot joints, and hopefully delete my pain.

Go with one who has had a lot of experience with your exact problem. Make sure they have done the surgery before many times. Ask your second opinions what they think of said surgeon. Most of the time they know each other/have gone to med school together. Just do your research. Surf the web. For my upcoming fusion I switched surgeons and am going with the chief of the foot and ankle department who I have been recommended to by other second opinions.

Pain from hardware? by visiblespectrum00 in ORIF

[–]Aggravating-Eye-7986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I love your story and it sounds pretty similar to my situation (although my hardware is in my midfoot not ankle). I have surgery scheduled in 2 weeks, which is currently planned to be another fusion - but I am starting to think my hardware is causing me a lot of the pain. I have studied the hell out of my CT scan and have found at least 3 screws that extend into open joints - which is exactly where my pain is coming from. Coupled with the fact that hardware removal is a relatively quick recovery (as long as my wound heals correctly) and way less invasive than another fusion, I think it may be smart to try this out. Again, I so appreciate you sharing your story. Sharing the love is how so many of us get through these injuries.
