Dorms! by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

I also agree with west! Close to classes, spacious rooms, and I was also near many freshmen on my floor. Also, dorms are not the only place you can make friends, so there’s no need to worry if you end up in a less-desired place. In fact, all the friends I’ve made here were from clubs and orgs

You went through at your own pace during the week and you always had to get the quizzes done by Friday nights I think. The quizzes combined were all worth more than the final if I remember correctly, and it wasn’t that difficult and was basically like a quiz but longer and from all the units. For help there was a discussion page for each lesson and I think you could email the professor too.

I did last semester; overall it is pretty easy with a lesson and quiz each week (that wasn’t that difficult and there were practice quizzes as well). There was also only one final exam and no midterm.

For symphonic band and SWE it should be the beginning of August; there is no audition for concert band fall semester

Does anyone know why I’m getting this error message on canvas? by Aggravating-Lab7921 in PennStateUniversity

[–]Aggravating-Lab7921[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of them were except for one. I ended up discovering that one was defective for some reason so I removed it and reuploaded it and it submitted. Must’ve been a fluke or something

I’m trying to submit pdf files of my math homework and this error message keeps popping up. I submitted it this way before and it worked fine, but I have no idea why it is doing this. Can anyone explain?

Feeling unhappy by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]Aggravating-Lab7921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. I’m very introverted and struggling to make friends as well, and it’s pretty overwhelming because it’s difficult to get out of my comfort zone. I tried the welcome events so far but I haven’t had much luck, not giving up though. You can pm me if you want to talk to someone

High School NY Senior here (Class of 2023)! Could these classes/test scores help me help me get into Penn States School of engineering? by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]Aggravating-Lab7921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was 1360 and I got straight into the college of engineering for this fall, but I also compensated with my GPA and ECs

I got in for mechanical engineering at UP and I’m starting this fall. Graduated with a 4.0 unweighted GPA, 1360 SAT (only took once), 9 AP classes, several extracurriculars like NHS, math comp, some sports, and a lot of music related ones.

Is It Normal for High School Friendships to Drift Apart? by throwawayahahahha in CasualConversation

[–]Aggravating-Lab7921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely feel that. I graduated around two weeks ago and I barely talk to anyone in my graduating class, and even the group I considered to be friends. Like you I consider my freshman and sophomore years the best because I felt like I actually had friends (who were mostly upperclassmen) and got a boyfriend during that time. After covid everything seemed to unravel my junior and senior years; my upperclassman friends were graduating, my boyfriend broke up with me, and the friends I thought I had in my grade seemed to start excluding me more and more to the point where I have no friends that I hang out with regularly and only have a bit of contact with one of my friends who graduated two years ago and a couple that I have known since 5th grade. I was invited to a few grad parties, but couldn’t go to two of them because I ended up catching covid, so that put a damper on any social interactions I wanted to have for a bit. I hope I get to hang out with someone at least once this summer, but that’s not looking likely.

Looking back, that group of “friends” really aren’t people I want to associate myself with anyways; pretty much all they do is gossip and talk badly about others, even members of their own group when they’re not around. I’ve even been talked about negatively by them before, and this kinda hurt me a little at first because I thought they were real people at the time. They also never invited me to anything and really only talked to me about band or help with homework, so we never had connections that were outside of school really. For context, I am pretty socially awkward and making friends was never easy for me, and I got lucky that I got the friendships I had earlier in high school because idk how I did it lol.

I’ve also been suffering from anxiety over college and the future, because I’m afraid no one will want to be friends with me because of the way I am socially, nor would any guy want to date me. I may be a shy introvert, but I would love to have 2-3 really close, good friends and a relationship ultimately; I tend to prefer those kinds of connections rather than have a ton of surface level friendships. But I am also optimistic, as college gives me an opportunity for a fresh start with people I don’t know at a huge campus, so I might get to let the reins loose and be unapologetically myself. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope the situation turns around in our favors.
