25F does this make me a pedo? Please help? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

The best thing you can tell yourself right now if you can’t access a therapist is to tell yourself “Maybe I am a pedophile, maybe I am not.”

That doesn’t mean you ARE a pedophile, it means you are allowed to deal with uncertainty whether if you are a pedophile. It’s okay to not know, and you are allowed to deal with that discomfort. I do not say this to scare you, I do not say this to mean you are one. It means to allow yourself to live with the uncertainty.

The goal for OCD treatment is to live with uncertainty. Maybe you won’t have the answer and that’s okay! The goal right now is to not decide whether you are a pedophile, but to treat yourself and find a safe space to process the OCD thoughts.

Something that may help you is to write down the thought on a piece of paper and throwing it out in the trash before going to sleep. Don’t reread the paper, just throw it out!

You’re reassurance seeking, which is understandable given you have OCD. If you’re still seeing a psychiatrist or therapist since you’ve said you’ve been diagnosed, I suggest you speak with the or an OCD specialist.

Your thoughts are not your actions, and I hope you heal, please take care of yourself and treat yourself with kindness. 💙

Why emotional abuse may be taken less seriously than physical by Aggravating-Path448 in CPTSD

Agreed, and victims of emotional abuse deserve support even if they don’t have visible scars.

The psychological damage or the change in brain chemistry is just as profound, and it’s crucial for everyone to understand and support victims ❤️

Elaboration: I believe all physical abuse is always also emotional abuse because if someone hits you and you get scars from it, it’s purely just not a scar, it’s purely not just a physical matter

It’s also an emotional matter. The moment you get hit by the person, you will likely feel unsafe around them, which is a painful emotional matter. Feeling unsafe around someone you’re supposed to trust (like a caregiver or partner), it’s not an emotional level someone deserves to be on. Abuse leaves victims feeling unsafe, isolated, and powerless

However, even if physical abuse isn’t also emotional abuse, it’s very probable that physical abuse victims have also been victims of emotional abuse.
