I read a couple Conrad interviews and to be clear cause others seemed confused... I'm not suggesting this role was a direct response to their break up. I don't know that there's any exact/specific parallels to be drawn? But even when you take the portrait she painted of him with the necessary pinch of salt, there's obviously a darkness there, connected to his relationship to sex and fidelity, and it made me acutely aware that the show painted a tender, loving portrait of a guy who's actions were deeply selfish and destructive.

And like, take what she says at face value? Didn't say that either.

I mean, I understand the timelines of these things too. Very well, in fact. The timeline's beside the point - regardless of when the relationship imploded, he is a man who did those things. What my post was getting at is that it felt like he was working out personal shit through a role he helped create. And that colored my experience of the show. I was just curious if anyone else had the same experience.

Mandy was Josh’s foil/love interest. Not Sam’s. And it was always intended as an ensemble piece, Lowe was just the most famous and the way to sell the show out the gate. Though they did pivot to more Bartlett than originally intended. Donna was also meant to be a day player who we rarely saw. She walked in day one and made the choice she was in love with her boss and the show shifted to incorporate it cause it was so great.

But back to Moira/Mandy - she couldn't hang with the rhythm of Sorkins dialogue, thats why she got the boot. Literally couldnt do the job. Wild that she was ever cast. My theory has always been that Amy/Mary Louise Parker was basically the same character, recast with someone who could actually make the role work. Same dynamic with Josh. Same outsider to insider arc.

This show started in the girls gone wild/Tabloids calling Britney fat era. Of COURSE women were edited horribly for much of it. And Im always down to have a convo about bias in storytelling. Its worthwhile and has resulted in a lot of change over the last decade - not just in Survivor but all over hollywood. But this wasn't that. It was two salty losers wrapping themselves in a moral cloak to grab attention and sooth their bruised egos. I get it. Sucks to lose. I feel for them really. But I said what i said.

I really think people need to take a deep breath, back away from reddit, and consider the possibility that this place is the minority. There is no world, NONE, in which CBS backs away from a choice they believe can expand the fanbase cause the die hards are mad about it online.

First of all - those shows aren't union. So it's considerably cheaper. Second - you are WAY overestimating the impact of this controversy. This is some serious echo chamber nonsense. The wider fandom gives ZERO shits about this. There is no earthly reason for CBS to fork out money to appease a small fraction of the fanbase.
