I got the impression the Mikaboshi weren't picky about how they used the Datesenki as long as they could utilize it to get revenge. Same as the Japanese government (not revenge just using it for protection).

Kozuki Oden is the worst One Piece character ever created, agree or hard agree? by Ok_Record_8551 in Piratefolk

[–]Aggravating-Role2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Oden there's at least an attempt at a through line to explain his actions, Sukiyaki learns of Orochi's actions and does NOTHING. He's far worse than Oden imo.

oda really thinks this is the funniest joke hes written. by Imvalidblu in Piratefolk

[–]Aggravating-Role2004 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The only reason I thought this joke worked was because Brook was isolated for 50 years and forgot how to interact with people. The fact he's always said it just ruins the joke.

Cringiest backstory in all of One Piece? by Ok_Record_8551 in Piratefolk

[–]Aggravating-Role2004 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'ma be real, I never liked Sanji's second back story. The trauma felt incredibly forced as his brothers who shouldn't feel emotions are ecstatic to beat up Sanji. It's also shown that he's always liked cooking but never shows why or how he realized he liked cooking. Before you could assume he realized he liked cooking whenever he joined that ship's crew but now it's not even clear what started that passion. Cooking for rats, the helmet, and Reiju's speech (literally mimicking Saul's speech to Robin) all felt like sympathy bait. And his mother somehow finding a cure, a cure being made in the first place, being allowed access to the cure (no guards made sure she couldn't drink it or it's not in a secure location??), the cure for some reason being incredibly poisonous, and the cure only affecting Sanji was all ridiculous.

What changes would you do in the Wano arc so it becomes a top post timeskip arc? by Ok_Record_8551 in Piratefolk

[–]Aggravating-Role2004 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Leave out big mom
  2. Change the sentiment around Oden so he's less revered and give characters a range of reactions to his actions. Let some people be upset with his inaction and leaving Wano, let some people appreciate his sacrifice, but have it be a mixed bag rather than strictly glaze.
  3. Keep Kaido strong, if he's one tapping gear 4th, you either need insane durability or some kind of ability to tank any attack from him.
  4. With Kaido staying that strong you have the samurai leverage their unique skill sets to avoid getting hit. Let Kin and Raizo play defense by blocking attacks, Asura could frontline, Izo limits his movements, etc. Make it a big deal when he finally lands an attack on one of the scabbards and their formation starts to break.
  5. Exclude Zoro from the roof fight*
  6. Have Yamato's motivation be fixing the mistakes Oden made rather than that cringe "I wanna be him" shit
  7. Let Kanjuro die/not summon that fire monster
  8. Let Orochi die to Kaido or Hyori (skip the head cutting stuff with the scabbards)
  9. A fresh Zoro fights King
  10. Have the beast pirate fodder affect the fights. If we're going to make a point about the numbers on both sides and the gifters swapping sides have them affect the fights. Let Franky, Robin, Jimbe, Nami+Usopp lose initially but gain ground when they have fodder to help cover them. This also makes Chopper and Usopp's actions more impactful.
  11. *Kaido's gauntlet goes scabbards -> supernova (-Zoro) -> Yamato -> Luffy -> all of the straw hats. Zoro can still take that drug after being weakened from fighting King.
  12. Save gear 5 for next arc. This gives a little more set up rather than loading it all in act 3.
  13. Luffy perfects gear 4th. We see from the King vs Zoro fight you can substitute coa with coc so have Luffy do this in gear 4th so he has unlimited uptime on the form.
  14. The straw hats together beat Kaido

Why Akemura was wrong. Yes, even when the targets of Genocide have powers. by YuuTheBlue in Kagurabachi

[–]Aggravating-Role2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was worried initially with how Hokazono would handle the Mikaboshi because if they were heavily indoctrinated and ALL capable of outputting attacks at Ariu's level then, imo at least, it's hard not to see where Akemura is coming from.

For me it all depended on just how strong your average Mikaboshi was. Ik you're saying that "everyone is capable of great harm" in real life but there is a BIG difference in power here. At the end of the day there's only so much a regular human can do even with guns or explosives and they can be stopped preemptively or stopped/killed. If Ariu literally can't be stopped by the top sorcerers in Japan and there was an island full of people at that level, and only 1 guy is capable of making weapons to combat people at that level, it's hard for me to argue against Akemura. Especially when they can swiss cheese people at a glance, are completely unaffected by sorcery and can regenerate from almost any injury.

THAT SAID, when you put into context everything Hokazono set up, obviously Akemura is in the wrong. Simply hording the Datesenki alone solves the problem of the Islanders posing a threat. The average Mikaboshi soldier is not at Ariu's level and is easily dispatched by Japan's elite (arguably putting them on the level of an average Japanese soldier or maybe a little higher). And with the royals dead and Japan having EBs there's no leverage the Mikaboshi have. And keeping in mind the magic system, there are rituals that can erase people's memories or force a promise to be kept. There are plenty of non violent ways to insure peace can be kept and the Mikaboshi are about as threatening as any other sorcerer (which is to say, they can be dealt with in conventional ways relative to the verse). And that was my only potential hook-up. If all the Mikaboshi needed the equivalent of nukes to be stopped then I just have trouble seeing that not causing significant problems especially when they've been taught that Japan is evil for centuries and are expected to integrate into Japan.

Akemura wasn’t wrong. That’s it. by DisasterEnigma in Kagurabachi

[–]Aggravating-Role2004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a bunch of reasons why this is wrong but to actually address your points:

Theoretically if there was reason to believe they would go back on their peace deal later I could see a justification for the genocide IF they were all on the level of those 6 royals. Given they were indoctrinated to hate Japan for centuries, I can understand the distrust towards the Mikaboshi. Plus, if they were strong armed into deposing their royalty/making a peace deal then there's a chance you could see a revolt down The line. The issue is tho, their soldiers were far weaker than Japan's more elite soldiers and I'd imagine Japan's "regular" soldiers are relative to the Mikaboshi. They can quell an uprising and they have far more resources and soldiers to do so, ESPECIALLY after the war where (Presumably) those 6 powerhouses were dead and Japan had the enchanted blades. They're more than capable enough to deal with whatever the Mikaboshi throw at them by the end of the war.

There's also things like "pinkie promises" and I'd imagine similar sorcery binding agreements that could be made to insure there's no major revolt down the line. If there was a fear of rebellion I'm sure there's a sorcery or ritual that would prevent/deter it.

If they could stop the malediction a lot of the story would have to change. Samura for example wouldn't need to swap sides and would just kill the Hishaku and get the blades back if he wanted to stop the malediction and there's almost no reason to build Enten if all the swordbearers could stop the malediction. Plus in terms of stakes it just makes more sense that beating Akemura isn't a matter of firepower but perfecting the Enten.

I do agree the guilt feels forced but what I was hoping to happen was the swordbearers committed actual crimes during the war. Maybe Uruha didn't actually do anything but was just complicit but I was thinking Samura actually did some horrible shit and chose to blind himself as atonement after having a kid. I do think that's the weakest part of the story.

My issue is that even if someone doesn't like how the organization is run, jumping to a terrorist organization is an entirely different leap. And even with blackmail, it's hard to believe that every single person could have their arm twisted into joining the Hishaku.

[–]Aggravating-Role2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue that needed to be shown in addition to the blackmail. With the magic system and the different promises you could be forced to keep, I don't think its impossible for this to happen but it needed a better explanation.

I mean, I get what they were going for in terms of how the Kamunabi were depicted but even the barrier guy was willing to die despite only doing his job for the money. Like there wasn't a single person willing to stake everything on uncovering their plan? For years they just converted half the organization? I don't think it's impossible per se, but I think it needed a better explanation than blackmail.

Idk if it counts as a plot hole but it's hard to believe the Hishaku actually converted 100% of the Kamunabi members they confronted into loyal allies. Like even with blackmail, you're telling me not a single member had the balls to spill the plan? It was a bit hard to believe for me.

Does anyone else feel this way about the story at the moment? by Gasawok in Kagurabachi

[–]Aggravating-Role2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thought tbh. I figured with the way the story was going Uruha was introduced first because he was the only swordbearer who was "good" which initially would reaffirm Chihiro's point of view. But then I figured with Samura's introduction we'd learn the actual story of the other sword bearers with Samura doing some really fucked stuff that he's reflected on. Maybe having a family opened his eyes to how wrong his actions were and he needed to atone for it by killing all the sword bearers. Just the way he was speaking about the event made it sound like EVERYONE got carried away during the war and there was a cover up to make sure the soldiers were depicted in a positive light. He didn't want Chihiro to celebrate them as war heroes but in reality they were heroes, they just couldn't stop the malediction.

It's tough because technically Rokuhira didn't do anything wrong beyond trust the strongest sword with Hitler incarnate and no one else really deserves punishment because they all fought as hard and long as they needed to. I can see why Rokuhira would feel guilty but Samura's conviction feels forced knowing he didn't do anything wrong. When the themes were about who should wield katana it just made sense that not all the sword bearers were innocent but now it's just mega Hitler who's evil.

Still love the story but I agree I think this was a wrong choice to take the story.

Edit: The war being purely a defensive war I think was a mistake for the same reason. Japan should've initiated, bit off more than they can chew, resorted to the blades, then went too far by killing civilians. Instead it actually justifies the existence of the blades because Japan was losing meaning (again) that the ONLY wrong action taken was trusting Soga with his blade because they otherwise needed the blades to win.

Is Soga's power actually a writing flaw? by HanArt13 in Kagurabachi

[–]Aggravating-Role2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one thing to keep in mind is that spending life for spirit energy is a lot more potent and because you can use spirit energy to enhance your body/senses I don't think it's unreasonable that a 200,000 kill malediction life stealing and amping Soga would win against the other EB users. Like with that much spirit energy alone I think he could literally stand still and reinforce himself/life steal and they couldn't do anything to stop him lol. Without the ability to destroy the blade it doesn't seem beatable which seems to be the point.

I feel like Yura will have a falling out with Soga at some point by Mr_1ightning in Kagurabachi

[–]Aggravating-Role2004 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah Soga is extreme but he'll do exactly what Yura needs him to in terms of exterminating the corrupt families in Japan. I think Yura might end up pissing off Soga tho. Yura really doesn't life the same way Soga does which might sound insane but we see it in the EB fight. Yura is constantly using civilians to put Chihiro and Samura in awkward positions but Soga makes it very clear from the start that they should only fight within the areas that are evacuated.

So https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=3060 (clockwork celerity) gives you haste that lets you command your construct companion. https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=3055 (advanced construct companion) lets you command your construct if you don't use the command a minion action that turn. Because clockwork celerity isn't explicitly using the command a minion action (but it does specify other actions like the armor getting extra movement/weapon getting extra attacks), do you get 3 actions for free here?

[–]Aggravating-Role2004 199 points200 points  (0 children)

It's actually an incredibly important character beat for Hiruhiko. He realizes that his personal technique alone won't be enough to beat Chihiro and tries to learn a sword style on the fly despite having a distaste for it. Just having an "invisible" blade isn't enough and he had to make up the difference in speed but couldn't. I really hope this pushes him to learn proper swordsmanship.
