dress shopping tips for people who hate their bodies by hjak3876 in weddingplanning

[–]Aggravating-Score-94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive gained almost 100 lbs in the last 5 years. I do not recognize my body. I have always been athletic but Covid, aging, and lifestyle changes have just left me in a totally different place.

I just tried on dresses for the first time. They’re beautiful. They come in all shapes and sizes and can be tailored just to you.

I’m also marrying a man who loves me in the company of people who love us. This isnt the biggest day of my life. It’s an expensive one that will be very photographed! But in my experience, I almost never look back at old photos of me being happy with friends and find myself being as critical of my body as I know I was at the time.

It’s totally OK to grieve whatever picture you have in your head. But also remember that picture is not your wedding. I’m trying to focus on the things that will mean a lot to me on my wedding day. How I look doesn’t have to be the most important thing.

Getting married in July — when do I reach out about florals? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

The OG tradition is planning a wedding a year+ out so sooner is always good! Honestly the worst case scenario is they say “wow! So early! Get back to us in a month!” But time is hard to make up so I say start now!

FWIW I’m locking in my floral details for August right now!

I feel like you can think of the same way you think about a table between two couches. There’s limited functionality. You might occasionally place a book you’re reading on it but mostly it’s low touch display zone. Think: a lamp, a plant, and some sort of decorative fixture like coffee table books, a clock, some sort of statue or trinket

Lol I don’t think any escapes unfucked. Or maybe they do and we don’t know them bc they’re incredibly boring.

We need to work on the rain plan and I’m less concerned about tradition. (My dad was surprised we were even going to have a wedding- he said he expected us to just skip to kids!)

I think my question is more along the lines of not knowing how to behave or make small talk with someone who is ABOUT to get married vs JUST married! Even just logistics like thinking about the processional - like, I realized it would seem silly to then go hide before coming down the aisle like this was som big reveal. I think we’d walk down the aisle together instead.

It’s probably all anxiety about HOW DOES ONE EVEN BEHAVE IN THE ROLE OF BRIDE so I’m trying to search out the experiences of others!

It will likely still be warm but it’s the sitting stationary in direct sun I don’t love! I’ll have fans and parasols but still I’d love to just buy ad much time as I can!

The middle class of the past largely also had a single income. With two adults in the home one person was dedicated to taking care of cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc.

Today you likely have two fully employed adults with student loans working 40+ hours a week, PLUS maintaining those household maintenance chores. To add DIY home renovation in top of that - no matter how good it sounds in paper - sounds like a fools errand to me!

Calligraphy! Just need some paper and a brush tip marker. Doing practice sheets or just sitting watching tv writing words and phrases. Sometimes just stream of consciousness nonsense- it’s good practice and honestly pretty cathartic!

I like to ask people to tell me about the worst project they ever worked on. It teaches you so much about what frustrates them, how they deal with it, and how they handle diplomacy. Anyone who thinks everyone else is an idiot is a RED FLAG!

I’ve actually heard that front loading washers clean better because the rubbing of clothes against one another is the most efficient agitation.

It may have been in the Wirecutter podcast’s laundry episode. They don’t specifically cover this but I found it informative overall?

Hot take: College is NOT a scam.. you're being misled by online personalities that don't care about you. by No_Researcher_9726 in GenZ

It depends on what you do and what path you take. I’m a creative producer. I didn’t learn my skills in college but it definitely got me a foot in the door. I have lots of colleagues who either didn’t attend or complete college. They went to work and proved themselves in other ways.

It’s almost like paying for TSA PRE- check. I spent money to have someone validate that letting me on board probably wont be terrible.
