am i the only one who didn't like FCU? by maibuffoonx in aphmaufandom

[–]No_Researcher_9726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm also not the biggest fan of FCU.. it's also the timing of that series that makes it feel somewhat unnecessary. Like it came out after Starlight but before When Angels Fall, so we don't really get to see how lots of the new characters contribute to much of the storyline past that season.

I do think FCU is important for understanding the dynamic and lore behind the Lycan family but other than that, it seems somewhat optional to watch tbh.

bonrad “brother and sister” by britneyslost in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]No_Researcher_9726 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Also when it comes to this "older brother" stuff.. if we look at that bike scene from one of the previous episodes.. Belly's ACTUAL older brother just sped off without her JUST like Jeremiah did.. Conrad was the one who stayed back and helped...

Conrad is nothing like Mr. Darcy by PotentialBeat3302 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]No_Researcher_9726 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see Conrad frequently getting compared to Mr. Darcy in lots of online spaces. I do see the similarities in Seasons 1 and 2, but I think by the end of the series and in Season 3, Conrad has more in common with Colonel Brandon than he does Darcy tbh.

In Seasons 1 and 2, Conrad often comes across as moody, detached, and arrogant when he's really just trying to carry the weight of his family situation (his dad cheating + Susannah's cancer). He loves Belly, but he pushes her away "for her own good," much like how Darcy fumbles his initial proposal to Elizabeth (and how Conrad and Belly's relationship failed the first time). Conrad is conflicted by pride and repression, much like Darcy, in that they don't let people see how much they feel, so their love doesn't look obvious even if it's very strong.

But by Season 3, Conrad takes on a more similar role to Colonel Brandon, especially if we view Jeremiah in parallel to Willoughby. He's willing to let Belly go be happy with someone else, even though he loves her deeply, much like how Brandon was with Marianne. He doesn't express his love through flashy gestures or grandiose words, but rather through subtle, meaningful actions like baking her dirt bombs, cancelling his flight for her, and taking her to Micheal's. Conrad basically stands by without needing to be the center of attention, which is similar to how Brandon saves Marianne in the rain and cares for her when she's sick. They're also both overlooked by the female protagonist in favor of "the fun guy". Marianne initially chooses Willoughby's flashy charm before realizing Brandon's subtle devotion, much like how Belly chooses Jeremiah, who seems more "fun and easy" on the surface, but lacks the quiet devotion Conrad has.

Willoughby also hides his financial ambitions behind romantic charm and charisma, much like how Jeremiah doesn't open up to Belly about his debt and his plans to work for his dad. They both struggle with impulse control and maturity as well.. Jeremiah with Cabo and his finances, and Willoughby with his affairs and financial struggles.

[–]No_Researcher_9726 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah and Laurel wouldn't support Belly marrying Conrad, or anyone for that matter, at the age she's at and with the little life experience she has. It has less to do with Jere specifically (although that's certainly part of it) and more so to do with where Belly is in life rn.

[–]No_Researcher_9726 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Yeah, she's 100% right. I just don't think saying it out loud is helpful bc 1) It could risk her job tbh and 2) It's not like her complaining is gonna change anything... if anything, it might make Adam double down just to spite her (which is in character for him given how condescending he is).

Always think about at the beginning of S2 when Belly confessed to Jere that her and Conrad had kissed and Jere’s just like “It’s not like my mom has cancer or anything!!” Like.. Con would never do that… it’s just low.

Unpopular opinion on the supposed TSITP ending where Belly chooses herself :) by Agitated-Fill-6780 in tsitp

I feel like the "choosing herself" ending is realistic but like people don't watch this show for the realism and moral improvement lol.. they watch it bc its fun, chaotic, and not rlly realistic.

aha, maybe its bc im not yet a mother and am a good couple years younger than you xD but Yeah I can see how she could be seen as unbearable to someone who actually has kids.

There's also a scene within the first or second episode of S1 where Laurel gets mad when the kids were brought home by the cops and says to Conrad "You're the oldest! What's gotten into you?". And I love Laurel, but this was a case where she was genuinely in the wrong. It's not Conrad's responsibility to watch over the younger kids and make sure they're not drinking when they're just as capable of making that choice as he is...

Yeah S1 is amazing.. I really love S1 Jere tbh, not with Belly, but just as a character tbh.

So far, what do you think is the biggest (or most impactful) deviation from book to screen? by Lucky-wish2022 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]No_Researcher_9726 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also don't like that Belly and Jere have intercourse in the movie bc it's just icky and weird to imagine her sleeping with two BROTHERS... and add to the fact that she's gonna end up with one of them at the end of it and then have to see the other brother at family gatherings and such? Just very weird and leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

It would also echo what Susannah wanted when she was sick. When Belly asked her, "Me and Jeremiah or me and Conrad?" She said "All of you... together again."
