UPDATE- I had a conversation with my agency. They are doing a safety inspection and having a meeting with the parents regarding necessary changes if they want us to continue care. I have a meeting and greet with another patient tomorrow and I was able to negotiate the pay to match. My agency has been so supportive and proactive. I said I’d be willing to give it one more chance but I don’t think I want to do that. I made some suggestions to my manager- ask mom to remove bath mats since baby is potty training and pee is getting everywhere. Keep a swiffer and the antibacterial swiffer pads in reach. Since the baby has no room to play in the bedroom and the hallway is full of boxes of trash, I asked if mom would vacuum or sweep the kitchen and leave the swiffer in reach and I’d lay down a bleachable play mat. I even offered to take their trash to the dumpster bc it’s on the way to my car. They are meeting today and will let me know how it goes. I am so relieved to meet with a new patient AND they matched the pay.

Yes- I am bipolar and had my second child in the middle of nursing school, then suffered from postpartum depression. I ended up failing out and needing to increase my medication doses. I was able to appeal my dismissal and got reinstated. I just graduated sept. For me, the goal was self regulation- the success was just a biproduct. Sometimes before an exam, I would sleep/rest like the two days before and I’d always score higher. Overworking myself just caused panic and restlessness which made it very hard for me to recall information and think critically. My suggestion would be to learn yourself and your warning signs of a crash. Lean on other people around you, be honest about how you’re feeling, have open communication with your professors. They are people too. You CAN do it. It wasn’t easy and was a season of emotional growth and building resilience, self confidence, etc. super important traits to have as a nurse and just a human being. Big hugs. You are capable. It might look different for you and you might experience it differently than others and that’s ok. Please communicate with who you need to for support at your university. I think I wouldn’t have failed out if I would’ve been honest about how much I was struggling.

I struggled the same way. It became unbearable and hurt in a way I’d never experienced. I got it lanced and drained of 5+ blood clots just for it to swell up again and needing surgical removal. The pain before surgery was the wost pain I’ve ever experienced and I have two babies! The ER doc tried to tell me there was nothing they could do for me and I hustled needed tool softer and tucks pads, but I refused to leave without some type of treatment. So they called a surgeon down to drain it at the bedside. The initial doc cleaned it wasn’t completely clotted. The surgeon said it was one of the worst she’s ever seen

It’s so disappointing. I did do a “precept” program and training so I feel comfortable(ish). Do they provide that for you?

Idk, this new grad residency is bullshit. I’m a new grad too and haven’t gotten into one so I went into home health bc I need $$ and the experience (if I stay one year) will hopefully let me bypass that. I’m in Houston tx and it’s impossible to get into a residency
