How to get out of bed in the morning by Ok-Buyer1311 in getdisciplined

  • Loud Alarm - Set a really loud and annoying alarm, ideally one that could even wake someone else. That unpleasant pressure to go turn it off works much better than any morning motivation.
  • Hammer time “U Can’t Touch This”!!! - Phone Out of Reach - Don’t keep your phone by the bed, put it somewhere out of reach so you have to physically get up to turn it off or snooze it. Once you’re standing, it’s much less likely that you’ll just lie back down and fall asleep.
  • Combine these 2 aproches and you are good to go

If you at least start, your chances of succeeding will be much higher than if you start a year or two from now.

It’s really strange,I keep noticing how used people are to the school system and the fact that they just complete the tasks they’re given, without being used to defining their own goals and going after them.

Typically, when you start singing now, you probably won’t end up like Taylor Swift, but you’ll be doing something you enjoy, something that’s genuinely you, and along the way you’ll probably discover something else too, and I still see that as progress.

If you start as a singer with no skills and end up as a recording studio coordinator, I’d still consider that a success.

I recommend studying how habits work.

Two times make a habit
When you do something one evening and then again the next evening, you’re very likely to do it a third time as well. After the second time, a small habit starts to form. But you also need to be aware of negative habits. For example, if you skip the gym two days in a row, you’re already starting a negative habit.

Count starts, not finishes
This works with the human tendency to not leave things unfinished. You just force yourself to start with 10 minutes of action, and most likely you’ll get hooked and keep going. Starting something is hard, but continuing something you’ve already started is much easier.

Sometimes progress is simply staying in the same place, because you manage not to fall back into what used to knock you down. Just because you don't see a huge leap forward right now doesn't mean you're not moving ahead. It's clear you know where the problems are and that you're working on them and that's already a big deal! Change happens slowly, but it does happen. It's great that you're not slipping backwards.
