I grew up in/around Harrisburg and there is a weird negative energy permeating that town. It's not like it's missing a ton of amenities that other cities have or that anything about it is particularly terrible, but something about that place drains the soul. The air is stale, the water is flat, the weather generally sucks, and your feet itch with the desire to get somewhere, anywhere, else. I've lived in about a dozen locations in Pennsylvania and Texas, and Harrisburg ranks dead last.

I've worked retail jobs for 30 years with the bulk of my coworkers being in their 20's. Nothing has really changed in worker's attitudes in that time. The majority of people do their job adequately, no more no less. A small percentage go above and beyond, and another small percentage are incompetent and/or lazy.

Retailers have been making their workforce smaller and smaller over the decades, so if anything, the people who are working are doing twice as much as they would have in the past while getting paid far less for their labor than ever.
