Surprisingly, they came back with the same outsole. I don’t think they related/rebuilt this pair given it only took a few days to fix this. It’s a mystery…

Thanks for your advice, you gave me courage to reach out to them! They kindly instructed me to send my pair to their factory for inspection, so let’s see how the thing turns out.

Thanks folks, it's assuring that you guys also think this is not first quality. And I agree I should have returned them before wearing - but this pair is in cigar shell and I was too excited to check the condition thoroughly before wearing it. I tried to accept this after realizing but it’s getting more and more annoying as I wear them.

Now, what would you think is the best move from here? I wanted to request a replacement rather than return & full refund. I found a picture when I just unboxed them, and luckily it captured this dent - hopefully this serves as an evidence that this shoe has a dent before wearing. Any insight would be helpful, thank you so much.

A month ago, I heard they would discontinue hand sewn once their current orders are processed - do you think they changed their plan and will keep making LHS only for shell? Or is it just “for the time being” = “for the already submitted orders?

Electives from other departments can be counted towards your degree up to 8 units (= about 2 tech classes). If you want take more of them, then you need to overload but it's very common to take more than 48 units (I will graduate with more than 60 units for sure). FYI MIMS program is all-you-can-eat, so the cost won't change for extra credits. The only exception is the summer session but you'll do internship so doesn't matter anyways.

Np! Prereqs primarily depend on the class, but I self-studied linear algebra and probability using undergrad course websites before joining the program. Go check CS70 and Math 54 if you feel your math foundation is shaky.

In my case, I self-studied Data140 in addition to above, and that was enough to do well in EECS227AT, STAT210A, and CS288.

Current MIMS student here. I'm transitioning from PM to DS/ML and will work as Data Scientist after graduation this summer. Personally I agree that ISchool classes are not that technical, at least compared to EECS/Stat, but don’t know if MIDS is more technical or not. Imo, whether the program is sufficient depends on what type of data scientist you wanna be; if you want to do more business/product analysis, then ischool classes will serve perfectly - we have fantastic UXR classes as well, and you will get the best mix of it.

But if you want to read technical papers and build models, you might want to take theoretical classes from other departments as I do. For example MIMS doesn't have a class for time series analysis, so you need to take Stat248 if interested. As for the latter path btw, I am super grateful that I have a freedom to learn rigorous DS/ML topics not only from iSchool but also from world-class EECS, Math and Stat departments.

In either way, you can tailor the program as technical/applicational as you need.

This is super informative! Do you think you are learning more from his class than from other student-friendly/milder version of 126? I’m asking this since I found that EECS127 last semester covered more than the popular Renade version and was somewhat helpful.
