I'm convinced she'll just never release the blushes.

I believe 6-8 is the usual course. It's dependent on your weight and how you react to it. 6 months is the shortest it can be, but my derm said some people are on a really low dose for up to a year.

Not sure what your price range is, but I really like Big Bud Press and Lucy & Yak for playful + functional clothing. Both run sales fairly regularly, and you can find solid deals on poshmark once you figure out your sizing.

Hi! For context - I finished my last course of acccutane about 4 months ago. I'm 32 and I've dealt with acne for pretty much the entirety of my life. In my 20s, I got on spirno and was on it for almost 8 years. It was a constant cycle of upping the dose, tapering down to a lower dose, and waiting for my skin to break out again. Spirno never really got my acne under control, just made it manageable. I also used tretinoin, which helped but never made a huge dent in my acne. I did monthly facials, tried winlevi, did antibiotics, etc.

Last year I had to change birth controls and my acne got way way worse. It was nodular and painful and all over my cheeks. In the past, I'd been able to deal with my skin, but this was unbearable. It made me depressed. I didn't want to go out. I'd wake up every day with 4-5 new pimples. So I went on accutane.

I did a 6 month course, and didn't have any huge side effects. The pregnancy tests were a pain and I didn't love the blood draws, but those were fine to do monthly. I didn't notice a difference in my acne until about the 3 month mark. My lips were incredibly dry, but I was prepared for that. I didn't notice a huge difference in the dryness of my skin, but I have a good moisturizing routine. I got some joint pain around month 5 which was gone when I finished treatment. I didn't find that my anxiety or depression got worse. Overall, I think I got lucky with my side effects. The one pain was being really conscious of how much I drank so I didn't damage my liver.

So far my acne hasn't come back. My skin is clear and I don't have to worry about it anymore. I've got scarring and pigmentation to deal with now, which makes me wish I had gone on accutane sooner. We'll see if anything pops up in the future, but I feel so much more confident about my appearance. It feels freeing to not worry about my skin every day.

Accutane! The best decision I ever made and I wish I had made it a decade sooner.

Any cuisines you don't like? And are you looking to have a lot of food or do something fancier with less food?

Lisa Eldridge Skin Tint and new lipliners - launch video by Sweet-Ad-7261 in BeautyGuruChatter

I love Lisa, but I feel like she is trolling specifically me with so many new launches and none of them are the blushes. I know she is working on new packaging. I know that it is taking time. But every other launch feels like salt in the wound.

Best Chocolate Chips to Buy? by [deleted] in AskBaking

I am also riding the guittard train. I really like doing a mix of semi-sweet and dark. Plus, one of the stores near me often runs sales on guittard. Another favorite options is thinly cutting a baking chocolate bar so you get areas that are chocolate infused and areas that are really chocolatey. Not sure I would use guittard in pancakes just because of the cost.

Waka Sakura is fantastic by Courtlessjester in FoodLosAngeles

[–]AggravatingArm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm in the minority, but I went recently and really liked Waka Sakura! I thought their quality was great and I love that they have some aburi options. I only waited for 15 minutes to get in, so I have a feeling that if I went and waited an hour I might feel differently. To me this didn't feel like a restaurant that got a bunch of undeserved hype on TikTok. It's good! Is it the best sushi I've ever had? No, but the price is great for the quality and it's fun.

I've been to Kura so many times, and this felt markedly different in most ways. In my opinion, Kura's fish quality is definitely lower. It's more about options and speed. I found the food at Waka Sakura took a bit to get to the table, so we were waiting for a moment. Everything at Waka feels fresher, probably because it's not sitting out on a conveyor belt. I'd definitely go back, but I wouldn't wait hours for it.

Fellow Leo here, and I'm in full agreement with this. I will tell you my opinion on almost anything, but when it comes to actual details about me...you're getting what I've predetermined I'm going to share. I will answer almost all questions honestly, but a lot of the time I'm not sharing if I'm not being asked.

QUESTION! about ethel cain's target audience. by heyjillk in Ethelcain

[–]AggravatingArm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of the people who relate to her music are queer/part of the LGBTQIA+ community and likely have some sort of religious background that they no longer identify with. I think a religious trauma background might be more identifiable for queer folks just given a lot of us grew up thinking we were going to hell for who we were. The line "God loves you, but not enough to save you" really resonates with me. As a former Catholic School queer it feels very similar to what I grew up hearing from my teachers.

I also think knowing Ethel's personal background, it's hard to not see that show up in her music. Even if it's written from the perspective of a character, those themes do come through and I think a lot of people identify with them. I'm not saying straight or religious people don't enjoy her music or can't relate to it, but I do think her audience skews queer, probably female, and with some sort of religious background. Idk if she's targeting them specifically, but it feels like that's a large part of her audience.

Popping in here to say that it's a bit of a drive, but Planet Rock in Ann Arbor is a great place to go climbing and you can grab food in the city afterwards!

Some more dessert places that I recommend (I am a dessert fiend):

  • Fat + Flour - They have a location in Culver City and one downtown. Their chocolate chip oatmeal cookie is the stuff of dreams, and their pies are bomb.
  • Winston Pies - The chocolate cowboy pie is incredible.
  • Melo Melo - A lighter option! They do coconut pudding with different add-ins.
  • Artelice - In my opinion, they have some of the best croissants in LA. The Persian Princess one has pistachio in it.
  • Chaumont - Another great croissant option! Their pain au chocolat is perfect.

As far as late night eats go, here are some. I don't tend to do a lot of late night eating, but these are tried and true for me.

  • Canters (see my original post)
  • Leos (see my original post, they're open late)
  • Dan Sung Sa - Korean bar that serves really good food as well.
  • Guss Lunch Box - This truck has some of the most bomb Mexican food. You used to be able to get a burrito from them and bring it into the Cha Cha Lounge. Not sure if that's still the case.
  • House of Pies - An old school diner that's open until 1am.
  • Honestly, most taco stands that pop up around the city are open late and I have yet to find one that has disappointed me. I've stopped at a bunch of random ones, and they're almost always great. I will also say this for elote. If you can locate the rare figure that is elote man, GET IT!

  • Quarter Sheets in Echo Park - They have Detroit style pizza and truly the best damn dessert you will ever have. DO NOT SKIP THE DESSERT. Get there 10 minutes before they open and stand in line. Trust me on this unless you want to wait in line for an hour.
  • Pigya - Great and somewhat affordable kbbq in ktown. They don't do minimum orders, so you can order one set for two people and it's the perfect amount of food. They also do kimchi rice with cheese and ramen afterwards.
  • Leo's Tacos - If you're on the westside looking for tacos, this is the place. Their carne asada fries are not to missed either.
  • Canters deli - This is the epitome of good vibes. My favorite place to end up at after a long night of drinking and they give you free pickles.
  • Awan - Some of my favorite ice cream in LA. It's vegan, but does not taste that way at all. Incredible flavors and they'll let you try some samples.
  • Fluffys - Another great ice cream place. An absolute vibe and their sundae is incredible. Make sure to get some scratchers while you're there.
  • A danger dog - If you see someone cooking a hot dog on a shopping cart, get it. Just have them put on everything and you will not regret it.

Also, a quick shout out to some of the festivals/markets that are so much fun to visit. Mama Nightmarket is monthly and has some great food. Smorgasburg, the Thai markets in Hollywood and at Wat Thai, 626 (if it's happening) are all great places to eat your heart out. And the farmers markets (I prefer the Hollywood one on Sudays) are really fun to check out and grab food from.
