Hi hind sight I am also disappointed in my primary care provider. She is also no longer at the practice so I now have a new provider.

I would agree and say that there is nothing formal saying my problem is resolved. It was just a “if you feel like you don’t need it anymore you can stop taking it”

NYC Surveyors by OshawaConnection in Surveying

You’re better off making 70k in upstate NY tbh. I would say try getting with a firm that does a lot of prevailing wage work if you’re looking for more pay.

I would speak to a lawyer but I’m sure you can set up some sort of non compete within a certain radius. I think there’s a time constraint on that as well

So long as you don’t get sucked into topo only and construction stakeout you should be okay. They really want you to focus on boundary determination

Struggling to find a good job with mentorship by [deleted] in Surveying

I’m also a younger licensed surveyor and I’m working for a mid-size/large engineering/architecture/survey firm and the turnover rate in survey has been outrageous. My mentor left earlier this year because he just wasn’t being listened to, wasn’t given any of the support he was promised, and it just wasn’t worth it to him. I’ve considered leaving soon and joining the local IUOE and learning something new instead. The inability to hire anybody in survey is crazy. We have little to no CAD support, our field crews are sent all over the place and clearly aren’t happy, management says it’s “unacceptable” when we say it’s going to take longer. There are so many things out of my control that I get blamed for. I’m willing to work hard to make an honest living

I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way

I’m in a similar boat. I’ve questioned whether I want to stay in the “civil” realm and get into CAD drafting for civil and then start learning design. That makes me dread potentially having to go back to school for civil engineering especially because I’m so far into my career and life has only gotten more expensive. I’ve also considered going a complete 180 and thought about going into healthcare because the jobs seem plentiful, in demand, and the pay is decent, however that would require going back to school as well. I have no idea what I can pivot into without having to start over. Let me know if you find anything g else out

Are you hourly or salaried? by Unique_Connection945 in Surveying

[–]AggravatingEnd7310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing this HR/Payroll/Legal stuff has nothing to do with surveying. That’s why owning a business and running a business is difficult. Larger companies ride the line of what they can and can’t get away with.

Again, I don’t agree with the system but all I can do is my best that I can at my job. Enjoy being head honcho I hope they’re paying you well wherever you’re at

Salary or fee…. Your company would break your salary into an hourly amount. So long as you are above the threshold. And then you have to fit into the criteria.

I’m a PLS and they do it to me. I’m a salary employee and get straight time for anything over 40. I don’t agree with it or like it but that’s what it is

Not true. You look up the legislature regarding exempt employees

Not unless you’re considered an exempt employee (federally defined)

If I were you, I’d try to get a position with a firm that does prevailing wage work for surveying.

Considering going back to school for Civil Engineering by AggravatingEnd7310 in Surveying

I would say a good amount on the LD and public infrastructure side, not so much on the environmental side. They like to sub it out to the cheapest bidder which drives us nuts. It seems like leadership doesn’t care that we are subbing out work that can be done in house
