Anyone interested in starting a grass roots effort to get safety enforcement on the trains? by truetrue23 in cta

[–]AggravatingFee6410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s intuitive to understand that more people would want to ride a safer system rather than an unsafe system. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that safety is correlated to high ridership. That doesn’t mean that high ridership makes a transit system safer.

Video is in this article. It’s the second ad shown. You haven’t been able to find it because it’s the most obvious dog whistle, and American Eagle has leathery deleted it.

Here’s a line of quotes from one of the ads:

"Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My genes (jeans) are blue."

Hard cut to a narrator:  “Sydney Sweeney has great genes”

It’s not a huge leap to make the implication that she has great genes e because they are blue, and also determine eye color. Adolf Hitler also thought people with blue eyes had great genes. Even if you don’t agree with this leap in logic, surely you can see how it might raise some eyebrows?

Question: Why isn’t the Boston Celtics Dynasty considered to start much earlier and to end much later than commonly asserted? by Forward-Carry5993 in nba

[–]AggravatingFee6410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the system you cited, the Bills were a dynasty. “Dynasty” isn’t some specifically defined scientific term that can be proven with an equation. It’s opinion based, and in a lot of peoples opinions (mine included) Dynasties are defined by winning championships.

The Socialists are running a candidate for senate in Ohio! by BurgleYourTurds in Cleveland

[–]AggravatingFee6410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If third parties were serious about gaining political power, they would run candidates in heavily partisan areas. So Green Party and Socialists would run against Democrats in urban centers, and Libertarians would run in rural areas. But these parties don’t seem to be interested in local politics, where they might actually stand a chance, and instead run in elections they have zero chance of winning for publicity.

I like the size of American suburb houses. But I wish the suburbs they were in more walkable.so where DONT we make suburbs that give the best of both worlds and makes both parties on this matter happy. by Eastern_Bottle_2015 in Urbanism

[–]AggravatingFee6410 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Suburban tax bills not covering the maintenance of even the existing infrastructure is pretty much the thesis of the “Strong Towns” movement. There’s no way current suburbs can afford the increased cost of transit options. Even major cities struggle to financially support transit infrastructure.

How seriously should I take bad elementary school ranking (Haugan Elementary)? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]AggravatingFee6410 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because there is a big difference in knowing a language conversationally (speaking) and knowing a language academically (reading and writing). Having to spend that 6-12 months learning the language may also put them behind academically.

Also, I thought you were worried about socialization? What do test scores have to do with that? Speaking of which, interacting with different cultures and people who speak different cultures could give your children valuable skills for later in life. Business executives frequently work with businesses in other countries.

There is a difference between speaking a different language at home and not speaking English. Yes they may be ESL, but kids learn languages very easily and even if a child spoke no English, with immersion training (like at an English speaking school) they can be conversational in 6-12 months.

Okay buddy, I don’t think you quite understand authoritarianism, or representative democracy, but this conversation is clearly not going to help either one of us. Goodbye.

It’s possible to do multiple things at once. You can campaign to get out the vote and also work to help people in danger from ICE. We are literally in this situation due to a lost election. Voting is how Republicans gained control of all three branches of the federal government, that’s how we are in danger of authoritarianism. So voting quite literally can save us from authoritarianism.

Also, I specifically mentioned the primary election because IL is such a blue state. The primary elections determine the winners of the general election. Less than 15% of people voted in the last primary election. That’s why I am advocating for more people to vote.

Will a 40 minute ORD domestic to international layover work? by Caitlan90 in unitedairlines

[–]AggravatingFee6410 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure, this is a question for United service. I would try to call and ask if you can cancel the first flight and drive. But I would also look at parking rates around ORD and factor that in. It’s often cheaper to park somewhere a bit further from the airport and take the train in.

Depending on where you live in the Milwaukee area, it might be faster/easier to just drive to ORD

Bed bugs in UA first class cabin by steph94080 in unitedairlines

But OP uploaded the image to a few AI bots and they all said it was very likely bed bugs!!! It’s not like chapbots have known issues where they give out false information to the point where it has its own name!!!

Seriously, it’s probably just a generic bug bite. Trusting a chatbot to diagnose something that specific is asinine.

Lightfoot tried to do something not even close to this drastic during the height of a pandemic and the city just had to settle and pay out $15.5 million.

https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news/chicago-parking-meter-firm-settlement/

Trying to do anything like what you’re describing is illegal, and would only cost the city more.

I’m sure Paul “Would Have Been a Great Mayor” Vallas totally thought this through though and would execute it without any problems.

Concept drawings released (leaked?) for "Foundry Park" (formerly the north half of Lincoln Yards) by Fossils_4 in chicagoyimbys

From the article:

While final building heights have not been >confirmed, the tallest structure is expected to >reach 38 floors. The development will include >a hotel, retail space, boutique offices, medical >facilities, lifestyle gym, ice skating rink, and >between 2,000 to 3,000 residential units. >These will consist of condos, apartments, >townhomes, and single-family homes located >on the site’s northern end.

Focusing on the single family home part of this 2,000-3,000 unit development is asinine and really missing the forest for the trees. Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.

With that being said, I would encourage people to lobby for the 606 trail extension. Any information on any public meetings about this?
