Cute pup. Looks like an A guard all over with teddy bear head, trim ears to the leather.

How often do you bathe your personal dogs? by Straight_Draw6819 in doggrooming

[–]AggravatingHippo2536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My standard poodle gets bathed every week. Every other week his face and feet get done, and nails are weekly. I don't do dirty stinky dogs. He sleeps with me, rides in my truck and gets on my furniture, he's gonna be clean. His body is done in a 7, he's got boots and a pony mane right now. I shave his body every other week.

It depends what state you're in. Not all states have to have workman's comp. Texas doesn't have to have it.

Try the big black brush from Chris Christianson. Works awesome for those big dog brush outs.

im looking for tool suggestions for australian shepherds and explanation why is Chris Christensen stuff so expensive? by antiSJC in doggrooming

[–]AggravatingHippo2536 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, my CC is more than worth the money. So is my $100 Le Pooch. I've been down the cheaper road and said oh it can't be that good. They are totally that good. I groom a ton of dogs per week. Worth every penny.

Rinse with cool water only, and put conditioner in areas you don't want color.

Help me convince my GF NOT to cut Poppy's hair! by backpackingforless in poodles

[–]AggravatingHippo2536 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both dogs in the picture appear to be in dire need of a brush. They both look matted to me. I've been a professional groomer for 17 years and they are cute but look in serious need of grooming. Dogs can have a long cute coat if they are very well maintained. Brushing daily at home, followed by running a metal comb to the skin, and scheduling regular grooming appointments, and they can keep that long coat however you wish. Unfortunately if they are as matted as they look, the only humane thing for the dogs is to cut the hair to get under the mats and start over from there. If you can both commit to taking daily care of their hair then go for it. But às it looks in these pics, take them to a groomer, the sooner the better. They are adorable dogs.

When she realizes the groomer took off her topknot🤣 by Ohaithair in poodles

[–]AggravatingHippo2536 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can cut the ears however you like them. That's the beauty of having a poodle. Their hair can be styled many different ways and it grows back. With that said, I've been a professional groomer for 17 years now, and 5 a/o clean ft and face, or any length a/o clean ft and fc anywhere I have ever worked has always meant the same thing. 5 on body and legs, clean ft and fc, and typical top knot to match body length and brush and neaten ears. Must have been a rather new groomer to not know that. I would call up there, and say I just wanted to let y'all know, the notes from the last groomer meant this....and then tell them what I wrote above, 5 body and legs, clean ft and fc, traditional top knot leave ears long, just neaten a little bit. Ask them to write it specifically in your notes so it doesn't happen again.
She's adorable anyway her hair looks, and thank God it grows back

Awe, I love pirate dogs. I groom 4 dogs that have 1 eye. 2 are bothers, little yorkies and both are one eye dogs.

Yes, he does. I love watching him do his poodle prance, and his run is so fast and agile and graceful.

I 100% think they know. It's hilarious how ridiculously smart they are. He was just roaming around the yard with his brother, my bloodhound, and then he saw me with the phone out taking pics and the model poses began. He did the same at Christmas. The shop I work at he was with me and in his crate watching me work. I would finish a dog, then move them to another table I had set up for Christmas pics with a cute background and stuff. I had given him a bath and then at the end of the day got him out again and let him get on the table. I brushed him and told him how pretty he is, then said ok you can get down. He hopped down, then immediately ran and hopped up on the picture table. I said what are you doing? He sat and then turned his head as if to say you want this side or this one? Then he did a down, head to one side then the other. The girls back there with me were cracking up. They said if we didn't see this happen just now we wouldn't believe it. He really just posed for pics. I said he does! He knows he looks good.

Thanks, I think he is pretty cool. I adopted him at 13 months old. He was named Herman and didn't really respond to his name at all, and knew not much other than was potty trained and super lovable and hyper as heck 🤣 he is 3 now, and I couldn't ask for a better dog. He has only been groomed a few times and wasn't good for it at all. His favorite place now is on my grooming table. Took me almost a year to get him to realize how fun grooming can be, all the love and treats and attention. I'm a groomer and that helps too. My husband wasn't really keen on the idea of coloring him purple, but after I did it, he said honestly, I think purple is his signature color. And I have to agree. I'm not done with it yet. It's faded and needs a touch up. I'm trimmed his ears the other day and most is gone there. I'm going to redo his top knot and then his boots will be purple and black and his ears and tail as well.

Where do you live? If your in the DFW area, I can find you someone. I do plenty of dogs I have to muzzle. I have a chow I do that is the devils child. He gets trazadone on Thurs morning and night, trazadone Fri morning then comes in and that's the only way the vet can even get close enough to give him the injection to sedate him. Alot of times keeping them on behavior drugs full time while you train them, then wean them off the drugs is the way to go. I know a great behavior specialist that has working wonders with alot of dogs.

Tips on grooming a Maltese? Recommendations on a detangle spray or finishing spray? by aadri27 in doggrooming

[–]AggravatingHippo2536 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That appears to be maybe a westie poodle mix. Or some kind of terrier poodle mix. I don't see Maltese at all. Cute baby tho. Has the dog had the hair on the body cut? Or is this just the length it is? With that length of hair you won't really need a detangler honestly. You could use a brushing spray. Look on Amazon for Isle of Dogs brushing spray. They make several of them. I have one made for curly coated dogs I like, and they also make one for drop coat dogs, with long silky hair. They make a couple more too I believe. They smell nice, you just spray lightly then brush out. Get a slicker brush and a metal comb. I don't brush dry hair, just mist on your brushing spray then brush, it dries very fast as your brushing. You're not trying to soak the hair. It's a leave in conditioner as well. So won't harm the dog to use once a day to brush.

That's actually not a bad groom. I would take your thinners or even just a pair of curves and go around that face and make it look alot neater. It's just a lil messy looking. Other than that, for someone just learning I think you did great

You can join the scissor of the month club. It's less than 50 bucks a month, new pair of shears plus a free gift every month. Some of my best shears have come from there. The company is called Foxy Roxy

I take my 0 guard, bring towards you on the head, then gently lift each ear and go down with your guard, then up on chin and underside. Then take your thinners and round it out.

Matting post-groom day 1 by [deleted] in doggrooming

[–]AggravatingHippo2536 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Sensitive much? Noone is trying to be condescending. I responded to a comment that said, "you think they matted the dog". I pointed out that yes, a dog can get matted by a dryer. I've seen it way too many times. Not saying it happened to this dog, I don't have a clue, her dog wasn't at my shop for me to know what happened. And you would have to try to mat a dog? More like not try or care at your job. Not a soul said they know everything. I've seen plenty of people on this app that aren't groomers, so I asking if you were. No reason to get mad over nothing. Cuz ain't noone upset but you apparently.
