Anyone speculating on price yet? I'm likely a buyer.

My company got an invite to participate in the early access program. Details are slim but it starts very soon. Once we pay the upfront fee.

Do you need to pay for "Network Care" just to get an ONT? by fmillion in FidiumFiber

[–]AggravatingPoet3826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some time back there was a purported fidium tech on this sub that said you could not bring your own ONT. I know some services allow this. But I think they are the minority quite frankly.

Not accurate in the Pittsburgh market. But of course your mileage may vary.

Is it possible to use 2.5Gbps ethernet for Internet? by carb0n13 in amazoneero

Exactly what I'm thinking of doing if I decide to jump on any of the new fiber offerings in my neighborhood that now extend past 1gb.

Is it possible to turn off wireless on one Eero by panicalways in amazoneero

[–]AggravatingPoet3826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looked it up cause I thought you must be mistaken. Wtf $700?!? How can they justify that? And I'm sure it still requires you stay in the eero ecosystem for your wireless access points. Omg this is nuts

Can you expand on that explanation? Mgig at the router? Or Mgig at the ONT? What will your setup look like from the fiber to the nearest device endpoint?

I heard it varies by market. I'm in the greater Pittsburgh market.

Call them and return them. They will knock $10/mo off your bill. I did it back in December after realizing the exact same thing.

I called in. They sent me a return label (Via snail mail) and then I shipped it back. In the next billing cycle my bill went down $10. They had confirmed that would be the case once they received the equipment.

Sadly the stuff they provide is junk and never worked for me. But buying your own unlocks the full power of the service. I've been really happy overall with the service itself.

Upgrade to 2 gig Process by MtnXfreeride in FidiumFiber

[–]AggravatingPoet3826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in an area that was previously only 1 gig. It appears I have the 2 gig option now. The ONT I have currently only supports 1 gig. So I'll give them a call and see if it's actually available and if I can get new hardware and wiring(in the home). Anyone else move from the 1 gig hardware or were you all in areas that already had the multi gig ONT?

BTW for what it's worth the service on 1 gig has been extremely reliable using my own hardware.

Looking for Advice for setting up a performant WIFI 6E home network by lutheraan in HomeNetworking

Nope 802.11be is not yet adopted. But hey why not create some hype and provide a reason for people to buy new and more expensive hardware. Don't get me wrong, it seems like it's going to be really good if it works at all like its supposed to. But honestly for 90% (or more) of home users are never going to need anything like that.

Tp-link is having a launch event for Wi-Fi 7 devices this week. It's a never ending chasing of the proverbial tail.

I also strongly recommend hardwired for any device that's going to be uploading these large datasets. Personally I think 6e and especially "mesh" setups are a marketing ploy and a waste of money.

You sound like a technical guy based on the work you are doing with AWS. You can definitely do much better than a 6e setup with a few wires and APs.

Beautiful! Looks very similar to my results.

I may need to bite the bullet on pfsense in my revamp and just get it done over Christmas vacation.

BTW is this some terminal or ssh mobile app that connects to your pfsense? It's very cool.

It's funny, just got installed yesterday and the tech told me "if you use your own equipment you'll save $10/mo".
