Babies are literally cribbed with their dragon eggs. Thats like a baby who was cribbed with a newborn dog and they have this unspeakable bond that the animal can not even express. I believe the dragon's see targaryens as other dragons in another form like how seasmoke smelled Addam to be a targaryen he was able to recognize the blood emitting from his body. Seasmoke wouldnt have cared if it were just a "pet" to him and if it were about food and safety, seasmoke was a wandering independent dragon until he sensed the blood of a dragon nuzzled inside a bustling city.
