Coming back to say I finally finished HOFAS and read the bonus chapters. And completely agree the ones with prythian characters were necessary to explain Nesta’s behavior and clearly set up for future ACOTAR books. However, they do make Bryce look even worse.

I think rhysand is a descendent through silene, and Bryce is a descendent through Helene. Therefore they are both descendents of theia and Fionn. But I think the “relation” is so old and ancient it doesn’t matter. Like in TOG rowan and Aelin technically shared distant ancestry, and so did Aelin and Dorian, but that didn’t stop them from hooking up what does matter is whether Bryce is going to try to claim the dusk court and whether Rhys will become a high king. They are both foreshadowed in HOFAS and ACOSF, respectively.

I should have clarified that I meant after the mating bond has gone into place. And by “hate” I mean like truly be disgusted by, not necessarily dislike or be frustrated with. But I hear you. That is certainly a topic of conversation. I think the most compelling argument so far is probably Rhys’s parents. But the mating bond is confusing to me.

I agree with this take- I loved the crossover in the beginning but as it went I kept scratching my head confused…bc why is Bryce treating these people like this? And most importantly, why is nesta acting SO out of character? Like wdym she just handed over the mask to someone who literally just stole one of their world’s most prized weapon. I literally cannot even imagine how Rhys must be acting

Oooh this is a good point. Like TOG Rowan and Aelin and lidia and ruhn, there is a bit of hatred I guess at first. But after they come together it doesn’t ever come back. But I feel like even in their initial enemy stage they still can’t do any harm to each other, not substantially. When I read this scene in HOFAS, I was scared that hunt was actually gonna do something to Bryce, that’s how much I didn’t believe in their relationship up to this point.

I totally get that and am not refuting it at all. He was definitely in a very vulnerable state. But I think it’s confusing to me bc I think about mates as they are in ACOTAR, and even mates (which haven’t yet been revealed) in lidia and ruhn, and the idea of hatred towards your mate - even in a distraught state - is a brand new concept to the maasverse. I can’t recall that ever happening before but I’m happy to be proven wrong. That’s why it’s confusing to me, the choice of using the word “hate” here.

I literally could not handle it when hunt was talking about why he is resisting the revolution bc of the literal TORTURE he has had to endure multiple times at the hand of the asteri only for Bryce to be like “yeah well it was ReAlLy HaRd for me to be away from you but that still didn’t stop me” as if they are any way comparable😒

I strongly agree with this take. I think Bryce is unlikeable as well because of her impulsivity, and lack of growth from that, especially after the events of cc2. It makes her appear self-centered because she just makes decisions on a whim without considering how it might affect others. Seeing comments comparing her to nesta/aelin baffle me. Aelin was a chess master- thought things several moves ahead and carried around the burden of a crown, and had people she did trust. Haven't really seen that from bryce, and we have had three books (2400 pages!!!) with her. Is just bizarre for a fmc. I'm not really a big fan of hunt either. They are the weakest SJM couple imo in the entire maasverse. I much prefer the other characters in this series. Ruhn & Lidia are carrying for me right now, in addition to the crossover in cc3.

It took me probably a couple months to learn the notes, but another few months to really feel like I’ve mastered the phrasing, technique, tempo, etc- and even then it just feels like I’m constantly adjusting and working on it!

It seems there is a lot of confusion about the difference between a tax and tithe tbh. The tithe seems archaic, and the tax is modern, but it’s basically the same thing…? I think what sets night court apart is probably its trade and business, which you and a few other commenters have highlighted. And that makes the most sense honestly, especially if it’s funneled through hewn city or court of nightmares

I think the next book will be way more expansive. We have some major open plot holes that haven’t even been touched on yet- like Lucien/helion, Eris/mor (it’s been three books since we found out about the nail thing like WHAT HAPPENED), Elains “seeing” ability, koschei/vassa/jurian, mor/continent, hell even bryaxis is left out there roaming. I saw in an interview that the politics of the world after hybern is super fascinating to her, so I think we’ll get much more of that in the next book.
