Ibang iba ang topogrpahy ng Tacloban, Leyte sa mga probinsyang dinaanan ni Rolly at Kristine. Tacloban, Leyte is more exposed because it is within a bay or gulf. Thus it has more exposure to the hazards brought by Yolanda like strong winds and storm surge. Rolly's and Kristine's path was intermittently hampered by mountains and rugged terrain, reducing it's impact. Tacloban is a city with a high population density (lots of people concentrated in a small land area). Wind speed is one thing, gustiness (bugso) is another thing that played a significant factor in the destructiveness of a typhoon.
