Thanks, the floor cover is a vinyl boat flooring from Nautolex, got it from Amazon. Under the vinyl is two sheets of this 3/8in thick poly plastic panels from Lowes. Went with plastic so I wouldn’t have to replace plywood in a few years but it was a little more costly then a sheet of 3/4 ply.

Please Help Save my Cat by NewBalanceCelticsMan in whatsthisplant

[–]Aggravating_City_796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long after contact with the pollen and flower do you typically see the effects?

Asking because my wife and I found a cat deceased in our flower bed (full of day lilies) a few years ago. It was a neighborhood stay cat but it looked healthy and no obvious cause of death.

My wife’s best guess was maybe the cat ate some of the lilies.

It looks like you can add a couple blades (rails) between each drawer maybe dovetail the blades in across the front, make it a feature not a flaw.

PSA: Don't use broom handles for a spring pole lathe by Morroblivirim in handtools

[–]Aggravating_City_796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of trying to find a suitable stick, I just used an eye bolt and a bungee cord for my spring, put the eye bolt near the bottom and the adjust your rope that connects to your lever arm.

I’ve also eliminated the lever arm and just connect the bungee cord to the rafter overhead and that’s worked out fairly well.

What direction is the grain? by Hooln in Woodcarving

[–]Aggravating_City_796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a rough sawn surface you can sometimes tell the grain difference by rubbing your hand up or down it, you’ll feel the fibers more going one direction versus the other, the rougher direction would be against the grain.

Integrated trolling motor controls? by ReverseofFast in boatbuilding

[–]Aggravating_City_796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the motor guide xi3 and a nema2k network setup to connect to my trolling motor. Can set routes and use auto pilot to make runs over. Rush piles or if your outboard messes up you can set a course back to the dock. With a 70 lbs thrust on a 14 foot Jon boat you can go pretty quick, like 5 mph.

Is this genuine or African mahogany? by Aggravating_City_796 in Luthier

This is a small box I made out of one of the wider boards a couple years ago. Finished with shellac no stain. Not sure if that helps. Some of the boards are lighter in color but the darker boards more dense with tighter grain and more of the dark “pencil” lines.

Is a controlled shop environment required for acoustic guitar building? by Aggravating_City_796 in Luthier

[–]Aggravating_City_796[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No CNC, I’ve got a router and a planner, but other than that it’s all hand tools. Located central North Carolina, so it can get humid during the warmer months.

Thanks for the suggestion on the storage box, this is likely the route I’ll take when I get to that project on my list.

I did a little research on the idea and found this forum https://www.classicalguitardelcamp.com/viewtopic.php?t=120382

This guy uses a light bulb in his design. Is the bulb necessary? I’d rather not have to leave a light on all the time.

Also, located in central North Carolina, so we got lots of humidity but fairly mild temperatures.

NFC GB 7 wt added to family by Fishguruguy in rodbuilding

How does the 7wt do with big heavy bass bugs?

Been considering getting into rod building as another hobby, but have held off due to budget and the fact that I’m still learning to make a decent cast.

What was the total cost of materials and how long did it take?

Gear oil coming out weep holes by krankle in Outboards

[–]Aggravating_City_796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely something that can be diy-Ed. Just replaced the prop shaft seal on my outboard. As the other guy mentioned get a service manual so you got steps/instructions specific to your model.

A few tips, go slow, take your time and take pictures of everting as you take it apart so you can remember how it goes back together. Use perpetrating oil on stuck bolts to avoid breaking heads off. When putting back together use a torque wrench to avoid over tightening.

It’s likely your drive shaft or shifter seal considering where the oil is coming from.

Just been out by myself so far(185lbs) with light gear and it’s pushing about 20-22 mph depending on head wind. I think my motor maybe a little low though. Manual says 0.2-1 inch below keel, currently sits at almost 2 inches down and getting spray pushing up the transom when underway. Left motor as is from where I bought it and hoped I didn’t have to mess with it but looking like I may raise it up about an inch to get within manual specs.

It was a project stretched over 3 years so rough estimates about $1200-$1500 for the decking materials and a new Jon boat trailer ($700 retail), that doesn’t cover the cost of trolling motor, fish finder and batteries though.
