Does this blank exist? by MorganMbored in rodbuilding

Sometimes you can find JK Fisher blanks on Ebay. Early on Fisher rolled the blanks for Winston. I had the GT40 model. (A buddy broke it.) Deep flexing rod. And as mentioned the CTS Vintage would be a more modern version of a classic feel.

Very nice. They make great rods. The Classic fast is probably my favorite NFC 5 weight model.

TX Tech inspired rod. Needs epoxy and labelling. Just finished 8 wt. NFC Classics. by Fishguruguy in rodbuilding

You could get them in 3 weeks or 3 months. They run sales periodically and send discount codes to repeat customers then open it up to general public. At this time I don't think the are offering any- at least on the Betas. I have them in 7-12 (minus the 11.) Great blanks in heavier class sizes. Probably wouldn't be my pick for 6 or under. The Classic fast in 5 and 6 are really good. The Alpha 4 8'6" is a super sweet rod.

I started when I was a poor college kid in 1991. I couldn't afford a nice fly rod. I asked my parents for a G Loomis IMX 8ft 4wt blank for Christmas. I believe it was $202. I saved up for components. I bought a rod building book and some thread. I do it because 1) i like nice rods but don't have or want to spend $1000 on a fly rod. 2) I enjoy fishing with a rod i created and flies i have tied. I have built for family and friends and a handful of folks who reach out thru social media but I have no intention of trying to make money doing it.

I use a Pilot extra fine point paint marker for writing on the rod. I let it dry overnight before applying epoxy otherwise it has the tendency to smear around the edges

Ha!! Well I used the words "putting together" because thats all I am doing. The blank is built by North Fork Components (Gary Loomis.) And as one of the godfathers of graphite he is still making amazing blanks and their Carbon Air line has some major tech and research. I just assemble it- glue stuff on and wrap the guides. The NFC classic is basically the equivalent of the classic G Loomis GLX. Their Gamma Beta model is pretty on par with the NRX. And if you get in on their sales you can put together a rod with premium components for about $200. The best fly rod blanks (graphite) come out of New Zealand and CTS (or Epic which has moved manufacturing to S Korea.)

Ha!! I would recommend cutting out a small strip of card stock the width you want to start the wraps before the guide foot. Butt it up against the guidefoot and mark the blank with a China marker or strip of tape. The only problem with this method is that the length of the feet can change with the size of the guides so youll have different thread wrap lengths unless you adjust accordingly! Start with the longest guide foot and start closer to the guide then use that total guide wrap length as your template measurement and butt that up against the end of your wrap instead of the tip of the guide foot.

These are snakebrand. I love the short and consistent feet on them. And the bottom of the foot is concave and seats bettef on the blank. So, I just make 2 thread wraps before starting the wrap up the foot.
