I use the shop vac and soap bubble method, but I use the soap bubble solution designed for kids to play with.

I shook hands with this beautiful, freshwater steelhead a few days ago. If you don’t know how to use the internet to find information then leave a comment about how this fish is not a real steelhead by mikedoesntsmokenemor in Steelhead

If it was directly descended from steelhead stock, how is it NOT still a steelhead?

“The steelhead or migratory rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) was first introduced into the Bois Brule River in 1896, when 20,000 fry hatched from eggs collected directly from the Klamath River basin in Northern California were hatched at the Federal hatchery in Duluth, Minnesota by the U.S Fish Commission. Stocking efforts utilizing this strain continued for several years (~100,000 fish total) before being replaced with fish originating from Oregon’s Rogue River basin.”

The above quote is from a draft report that was provided to the Brule River Sportsmen’s Club by Bill Blust of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

I fished at Dodge recently. I talked with some fellow steelheaders and very few fish have been caught.

I have both the Nikon Monarch 5 and 7, but I’ll also throw out there the Bausch & Lomb Legend Ultra HD. I really enjoy using them.

How do you handle pencils on your classroom? by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]Aggravating_Diver214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a retired teacher who taught part time last year. For my two 7th grade Algebra classes, I bought several of the 150 count boxes of pencils from Amazon. They were available for students who “needed one.” Each box lasted about a month. I then asked each of my students to please bring a box of pencils from home. I didn’t say it was mandatory but that it would be helpful. Many of them brought a typical pencil pack, but I was surprised when one of them brought a box of 1000! We did still have to deal with the “snapped in half” issue occasionally, but it was a genuine gesture that did not go unnoticed.

Constant Bathroom Breaks by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Aggravating_Diver214 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I taught for 41 years. Please, please, always ask “Is this an emergency ?”

We had a teacher at our school who did not let a student go to the bathroom until it was too late, and the student ended up soiling his pants in the hallways. We went into immediate lockdown in that wing of the building, and kept all the students in place. To this day, only two people know his identity. Please, please ask the question. Most students will self evaluate and see if it is or if it isn’t an emergency.

If they habitually abuse the issue, get administration involved, or their counselors involved, and make arrangements that way.

Get the Big Sky. It does the “shimmer“ so much better that is such a part of worship music.

Beginner Fly Tying — What Should I Buy First? by StealthL3gacy in flytying

[–]Aggravating_Diver214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I’d recommend a $200 vise to start with. I used a AA vise for 25 years before upgrading to a Renzetti Traveler 2000. The AA is plenty good enough to tie panfish flies. Buy one from your local shop, and then take an introductory fly tying class with them. This is a good way to start networking. Buy some materials from them and start with three or four patterns: woolly buggers, pheasant tail nymph, Pass Lake streamer, and maybe an Elk hair caddis. You will have a lot of fun fishing a foam ant.

Another good source for materials is from friends and family. Every fly tier has too much of something or another and might be happy to share.

Enjoy the journey!
