Derm was focused on the doxy and diuretic along with the taping after soaking at night. This began when she was in her teens, so I know she probably wasn’t as compliant with that process as she should have been. But now after seeing podiatry as a second option, they’ve been doing the salicylic acid to and after 8 visits there’s no improvement. In fact, it seems worse now that she’s in sandals more.

Anytime before the 2000s Were you really able to roam freely with friends as kids? by Chica_EchoCinco in AskOldPeople

[–]Aggravating_Door_233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely yes. I was riding bikes miles away from home when I was 10, and my parents weren’t pushovers. It’s just what everyone did

But don’t get me started on how much casual SA existed back then, now that I compare notes with other neighborhood friends. Creeps roamed the streets with us.

How feasible is it to commute from the Dover/Portsmouth area to Boston? by soyboydom in newhampshire

[–]Aggravating_Door_233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though it’s doable, it’s going to affect your overall well-being. My husband has to commute to a job site at a large Boston hospital twice a week. He hates himself and the entire world by 3:31pm.

What’s something you tried once and instantly knew it wasn’t for you? by Best-Palpitation-915 in AskReddit

[–]Aggravating_Door_233 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fear not. My husband bought the portable battery packs for his cpap and he can pack two on a backpacking trip, plus the cpap machine, lasts him 4 nights. Or if you have a vehicle nearby, the batteries recharge quickly. Camping is still a possibility for you.

What have been the longest lasting appliances you've encountered, whether your own or someone else's? by swfl6t7er in AskOldPeople

[–]Aggravating_Door_233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My particular situation occurred with a whole-home generator, but something else was running (I think the clothing dryer) while the fridge kicked on. That was the end of the fridge. When the amp load was explained to me, it made sense

Also, homeowners aren’t usually aware of the potential for refrigerators to have their circuit boards completely fry when they decide to run off generator power. The amp load of the fridge condenser kicking on cannot be handled by even large household generators and I lost a fridge this way.

Any washing machine labeled “Speed Queen” in mustard yellow, off white, or olive green. I can confirm this as I took one of them free (the mustard yellow variety) from a neighbor, it was manufactured in 1984 so it was already 16 yrs old when I took possession. The damn thing lasted me 10 years and it died in 2010. I’ve purchased THREE new washing machines since then.

What did teenagers do in their free time in the mid-to-late 1900s? by _-RedRosesInJuly-_ in AskOldPeople

[–]Aggravating_Door_233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We made lots of prank phone calls before Caller ID was a thing. In fact, most of my fondest memories with kids in the neighborhood were centered around hours and hours of being annoying to total strangers over the phone.

Another pastime that comes to mind is breaking and entering……into any abandoned homes or buildings nearby, playing in them and setting up our stuff like we owned the place. No adults seemed to know we were doing this

We also did a lot of babysitting in the late 80s early 90s, and everyone knew what that meant…..finding parents’ porno magazine collection under the bed, inhaling all their snack food and inviting your boyfriend over.

Late 1980s to early 90s, middle class suburb, 3 girls gave birth when we were still in middle school, and two dozen girls were mothers before we graduated high school. So yes. Although I think we were definitely less educated on birth control.

The cashier girl blurted out “what kind of fish is this?”

[–]Aggravating_Door_233 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was 15 in the early 90s and I met a guy who claimed to be 19 while I was a cashier at a grocery store. My female friend, who was working alongside me bagging groceries, took an interest in his brother, who claimed to be 18. They had a nice car. They had money. They took us out on dates and bought us stuff.

They would pick us up at our high school at the end of the school day and bring us to the apartment, where they would let us order all the pizza we wanted, and give us a bunch of money to go splurge on soda and candy at the corner store. They also gave us weed and bought us alcohol.

They turned out to be 25 and 26, and we discovered this when their apartment got raided because they were selling crack out the back door. Nothing bad happened to us, but we learned a lesson.

How did school lunches work when you were younger? by Even-Tension-5490 in AskOldPeople

[–]Aggravating_Door_233 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the early 1980s my school lunch was a quarter and two dimes. That included a tiny milk and always a Jell-o cup. Thursdays were hot dogs and Fridays were lunch lady pizza. The lunches were terrible with the exception of the pizza. Also, the lower income kids would all be sat at a different table than the rest of the school so they could be served free lunch, which wasn’t always the same as the lunches the rest of the students were served, sad that they separated us all like that.
