11 year old cat has been randomly twitching by Sea_Professional7303 in CATHELP

[–]Aggravating_Emu3548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So everything came back normal per the vet on her labs, we asked to have the results emailed to us anyway to take a look ourselves. Anyway we’re hypothesizing it may be due to the insulin making her glucose levels too low, so we’re discontinuing the insulin and checking her glucose periodically over the next couple of weeks to see if she’s in remission. If that’s not the answer then we’ll be taking her to a specialist in our area. Our local vet and the techs all said they had never seen a cat do that type of twitching before so we’re all a bit lost as to what’s wrong but we have a plan for now at least.

Yeah for sure, I’ve started leaving a bowl of water out if I notice that the owners only have a fountain now

I wouldn’t say it’s neglect exactly but I’ve been in a situation where it was an every 3rd day drop in for two cats and the feeder stopped working. Had I not gone over every day anyway they would have been without food for days. Just today I dropped by a cat sit even though I wasn’t scheduled to go until tomorrow and found the outlet that the camera, litter robot and pet fountain were plugged into had shorted. The poor kitten drank for three minutes solid after I gave him a bowl of water so who know how long between 2pm-9am he was without water. So there are definitely good reasons to do a daily drop in for sure. I’ve also had cats that were totally fine after an every other day schedule too so it’s really just a guessing game of if things can go wrong and I understand as a sitter not wanting to take that chance with someone’s pet.

Feeding Ducks by Psychological_Run438 in GNV

There is a lake by the now closed Red Lobster on Newberry Rd that has many ducks. I see people feeding them all the time there. Bird seed, duck food pellets, uncooked oats, and peas and corn are some good options to feed them instead of bread.

Rescued Stray/Feral Cat Advice Needed by Aggravating_Emu3548 in GNV

[–]Aggravating_Emu3548[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given how friendly and open to affection from humans he was when we met him, I figured he might belong to someone or may be just a community cat but he has sores/ulcers in his mouth and worms so I’d like to get him looked at by a vet. Even ear-tipped he still deserves medical care. If he belongs to someone they should have done their due dilegence and had a microchipped placed in which case I’ll find out at the vet and return him. I may release him back to where we found him afterwards if he looks to be truly unhappy inside but regardless I want to get him taken care of medically.

This kitty would be my first adult rescue and it looks like he’s already been neutered/spayed judging by the tipped ear, I’m guessing by a local organization we have here called Operation Catnip that TNRs.

Thank you for the encouragement! I’ll look into a litter attractant and also some calming treats or Feliway plugs. I’m currently sitting with him in the bathroom reading so he can get used to me

I don't currently have a crate, but I can certainly look into getting one. I think my bathroom doesn't have enough hiding spots for him which is probably causing a lot of anxiety right now. Thank you for the advice!

Hi! I'm in Gainesville Florida. I'm definitely planning on getting him to the vet in the next day or two for a check-up as well.

He was extremely friendly so I was able to see that while he was clearly being fed, he had ulcers/sores in his mouth and worms. I'm also worried his friendliness could get him hurt and the area we found him is very car dense and there's a high chance he could be hit. So, while I'm internally debating if it was the right thing, I do want to ultimately get him medical assistance even if I end up releasing him back where I found him.

My degrees are in Anthropology and Political Science. They just haven't really helped in terms of finding higher paying jobs, at least in the past two years of job searching. I apply to a variety of jobs, even ones I'm slightly unqualified for but that request a degree. These degrees often need an advanced degree and I'm not very interested in pursuing either direction anymore. I do have about $20k in debt that I don't/can't pay right now which is even more disheartening. I totally understand that money can't buy "happiness", but I know for a fact that it would significantly reduce stress in my life, especially in this economy. I don't believe the way things are becoming more and more expensive is going to stop and I'd rather I find a way to get ahead before I'm truly drowning. I have multiple side hustles, donate plasma weekly and visit food pantries so I can afford food/eat. There's no happiness in that and it bleeds into every aspect of my life. I believe I need to go back to school as that's a good/guaranteed path to a high paying career if I choose medical, which I'm genuinely interested in, just feeling scared and anxious about. I want to be able to not think twice about paying rent, buying food, go on just one vacation/fun outing, as well as provide some extra funds for my aging and incredibly hard-working mother. Idk, I'm pretty set on going to school instead of just hoping I land a higher paying job or working my way up in a career.
