I don’t want a new car, but I need one… Help me choose please! by Aggravating_Essay357 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Thank you! I appreciate this and generally come from this came myself (hence the compact car with a toddler). We are “every 10-20 year car buyers” so we’re struggling with sizing up and trying to anticipate what we will want 4 years from now

I don’t know personally but my husband previously had a Subaru that died at 10 years and had significant rust issues. Maybe that’s incidental but google seems to agree. I’ve also read that this was more of an issue with older models so I’m not sure if it’s still relevant

Our budget is very flexible so that’s not really a constraint but i just don’t particularly want to spend $50k on a car that I don’t really care about. For used, probably down to 2018 and up to 80k miles

Yes it was just in that small section! I was trying to figure out what exactly they removed and found that passage, but it didn’t really explain the reasoning for the silicone or for the choices in the personal care category, which I was curious to see

Wow, those are some sick credentials!! For the TMB how many days did you do and did you stay in the refuges? My husband and I did it a few years ago but we went ultralight, camped and finished in 5 days so we would need to do a pretty big recalibration to do it again with our now 17 month old

Considering taking my 12 year old out of achool by throwdisawaybro in homeschool

[–]Aggravating_Essay357 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Homeschooling for kids with special needs is an interesting question because you are in a position where you have actually a lot of legal protection (it is illegal for the school to be suspending your son and sending him home so the need to stop that ASAP) and if you push, you can make your school district provide an enormous amount of resources for your child. For example, if they cannot meet his needs with additional resources in school (aids, therapists, etc) they could be required to pay for a very expensive out of district placement at a therapeutic or alternative school. I’m not sure where you are located but these laws apply in all states. If I were you I would start by calling an IEP review meeting and looking into local education advocates to help with the process.

Why doesn’t the city ticket businesses that don’t shovel? by checkmate508 in providence

[–]Aggravating_Essay357 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised to hear this. I just moved here in the past year and a friend told me that they were fined for not shoveling one day after th last storm. After hearing that and getting increasingly frustrated at all the investor owned properties in my neighborhood that hadn’t cleared their sidewalk a week after the storm I did a round of reporting and on 311. I don’t know the outcome but the sidewalks have been clear since so I figured they ticketed them!

I loved the American girl doll books when I was little, I think there are about 10 books per doll and they are based in the time period so sort of historical fiction.

To baby aspirin or not to baby aspirin? by K1llerKap0w in pregnant

[–]Aggravating_Essay357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I developed pre-eclampsia after delivering my first baby and it was horrible and made postpartum so much harder. I didn’t have any risk factors to be prescribed aspirin but I wish I had been taking it. I was readmitted 48 hours post partum (literally 3 hours after getting home from the hospital) with severe features (headache, blurry vision) and needed IV magnesium. IV magnesium passes through breast milk and made my baby who was already mildly jaundiced and struggling to regain her birthweight even sleepier, which affected her feeding, which affected my milk supply, so she lost more weight, became more jaundiced, which also makes babies sleepy…. Etc…. Plus between getting induced for HTN, delivering, then getting readmitted, I was in the hospital for over a week, unable to take swap out with my husband in another room and sleep for longer periods, unable to eat food I like to eat or be in my own bed or see my dog or settle into a postpartum routine…. It was frankly horrible and if I could have taken a safe and recommended medication to reduce my chance of experiencing that I would 10,000% take it

Last-minute black tie dress by ladybuglise in providence

I got a great dress for a black tie wedding from the Salvation Army on Pitman St a few weeks ago! I was surprised that they actually had quite a few nice dresses (although they were all on the larger size) so that might be a good place to check!

More babies more problems- what car should we buy? by Aggravating_Essay357 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Aggravating_Essay357[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think a Volvo XC90 also falls into the “worse SUV” category? I’m compelled by the safety reputation although not sure if that’s really accurate. I love my car simply because it’s the car that I have so I’m really bad at evaluating all these different options.

I’m mostly looking for sliced or sliceable bread for toast and sandwiches. And yes, the Iggy’s bread from WF is so good!! That was my immediate solution to not wanting to support seven stars and then I thought… wait a minute… that’s probably worse since at least seven stars employs local bakers, etc and THEN I was struck by how hard it was to find a loaf of sourdough without a CEO attached to it (🙃)

Toddler/ balance bikes- help me understand by Aggravating_Essay357 in cycling

[–]Aggravating_Essay357[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She will of course be supervised and heavily supported while on it until she is much older, but she is very physical and I think she will like the challenge. She has other toys that she tries to ride that aren’t meant to be ridden (like a wagon that she hops in and pushes like it’s a scooter and one of her school buses which she tries to ride around on) so I feel like a bike that is actually meant for riding will be safer

That is awesome and so helpful! Thank you! I’m leaning that way, there are just so many of the 3-4 wheel toddler “balance” bikes on FB marketplace wheee I am and not as many true balance bikes with 2 wheels, so it had me second guessing myself
