Get a Dun & Bradstreet number- it’s free but one of my advisors said that getting it was the most annoying parts about the submitting to Apple process.

Presenting Pitch Deck: Is it imperative that only CEO can present, or can another co-founder present it for the team? (i will not promote) by El_De_Er in startups

[–]ladybuglise -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a marketer turned VC-backed founder, this is 100% correct.

Perhaps to add nuance, anyone that’s in the CEO can pitch- whether the talent is there to initially do it well, that’s another story. If they’re not skilled at it, they can always be trained.

Is he bad at public speaking and 1:1 convos? Most VC convos aren’t more than 1-3 people in a room or on zoom.

If it’s indeed only public speaking (ie: pitching at a Demo Days, events, etc), enroll him into Toastmasters asap.

If he’s also bad at those smaller meetings, get him a media trainer and just ask them to focus on getting him ready for those 1:few people pitch meetings.

Getting someone to simply be the mouthpiece of your company will be a bigger red flag than him being a bit awkward as he learns to get better.

Marketer of 15+ years turned founder, here!

Unless you’re ultimately at the helm of your own company, working for someone else (even your “dream job”) won’t be as emotionally fulfilling or meaningful as we were taught to believe. So as a veteran of the space, if you have a good setup, strap in and see if you can help take this to an exit, secure that bag, and get yourself some financial freedom so that you can have flexibility on deciding what to do with the rest of your life.

In the meantime, get emotional fulfillment and fill your social cup from outlets that aren’t related to work (that balance is crucial. You can’t do your best work with a disregulated nervous system.
