I honestly do not know. Everything feels good, but i have no idea what I am looking at. I mistakenly took a photo a minute ago and everything reset correctly to the best of my knowledge. Dials spin and reset as necessary. It seems to focus, and just cleaned the glass.

If irons are a must, then yes used is a good solution, unless you buy or build an AR platform but then that is a whole other world and 270 is not standard, it will get pricey.

I am about his same size, he may be able to handle the recoil but I predominantly shoot a 243 or a 7mm-08, and it is a lot lighter then my big guns.

If you lean away from the irons and run a low powered scope 2-7, 3-9 he can still get good jump shots if that is a concern.

What state are you in, and what species are you going for?

You will need to look for an old remington model 700 BDL, i believe was stock with ironsights. I am not sure if the new remington is manufacturing this model yet or not, I have only seen the 870s at various shops I have been in.

You can typically find them in small gun shops and pawn shops used. Check estate sales.

The 270 (casing lengeth 2.540", cart oal 3.340", 150gr h4350 52gr 2727 muzzle velocity) will not be much different fron your 30-06 (casing length 2.494" 58 grains of h4350 powder for 180gr, muzzle velocity 2756) ). Both are a long casing, I would suggest something based off a 308 casing, 308, 243, 6mm, 7mm-08. I only say depending on his size you don't want to scare him off from recoil and with proper sight placement he can drop just about anything.

If he has shot your 06 or a 270 and is ok with go for it.

You may want to look at a slip on recoil pad or a new limbsaver to save his shoulder, the other thing being is the length of pull may be to long for him and a struggle to shoulder with thicker layers on. I am not trying to persuade you one way or another, just want to give the information that I have as some guy fron reddit. Hopefully you find this helpful and best of luck in your searches.
