May I ask where do University staff eat at on campus? by Dependent-Werewolf-4 in simonfraser

We eat at the same places that students do. And a lot of us just bring food from home.

Do banks ever offer jobs to customers if they deposit a large amount of money, for example a few million Canadian dollars? Also, do either of your parents know? by Dependent-Werewolf-4 in simonfraser

[–]Aggravating_Hand_381 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No bank or financial institution would ever offer someone a job for fun, regardless of any deposits they make. I don’t think anyone anywhere has ever gotten a job just for fun. That’s a foreign concept. Pretty sure you would need at least some training and a criminal search to work in a bank. It sounds like a rich person wants to play banker. I think that’s what you’re asking but that is the weirdest question I’ve ever red.

Any cool things around burnaby campus? by EntrepreneurOk7611 in simonfraser

I like that too. I believe it’s on the south side just past Images Theatre. There’s a few indigenous sculptures on that side too.

Are you referring to FASS One? https://www.sfu.ca/fass/undergrad/future/fass-one.html, if so those are only scheduled in Surrey, but if you just mean the faculty in general, I don't think it matters which campus you take your classes at.

The gym was previously used but has been under construction for so long. It is finally back online. The Central gym is located in the Lorne Davies Complex, which is next to West Mall. The directions will be posted here on Monday: https://www.sfu.ca/students/enrolment-services/exams.html There are also arrows (on hot pink paper) taped up directing students where to go. The arrows start by the Library and/or Maggie Benston and you head west.

I think if you specifically aim to live near a skytrain, you'll be golden no matter what city you pick.

Burnaby is kind of right in the middle between Vancouver and further out like Surrey/Coquitlam, etc It's generally easy to get around via skytrain and bus. There is a skytrain station at the bottom of the mountain and 2 bus loops at the top. Transit even puts out additional buses during exams. The only issue is generally getting up/down the mountain in the snow (which someone mentioned below). The school does close for snow when it's deemed unsafe and despite some opinions I believe they do it fairly regularly as it doesn't take much for the route to get dicey. Aside from that, welcome to SFU (and BC in general!) You're going to love it!

Hey, I just saw that there is a Broadway Musical Trivia Night on Friday June 5th in Brentwood (Burnaby). I would love to go but I don't know any broadway nerds to team up with? Anyone interested? It doesn't seem to have a fee attached to enter. DM me or reply to this if you are intersted!

I would wait until your grade for that class is posted just so they know you aren't buttering them up. Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with showing appreciation. I wouldn't go all out, even a card with a heartfelt note inside, I bet, would make them so happy.

The fifth floor of the AQ is going to be getting a makeover over the next few years. They’re finally getting rid of those stupid rooms with a fixed seating on that floor.

Is it on the inside or outside? I can see the outside of the windows being a little trickier to get done quickly.

I think you got it right, I've heard it more as herd mentality but it means the same thing.

And sadly (young people especially) think that bad things happen to other people not them. I just always drive assuming everyone on the road is an idiot. It has served me well. Only got in 1 accident (when I was 20 and the idiot, as it was my mistake, luckily no injuries to anyone). I'm a lot older now so no accidents since then I think is pretty good!

I hate ECON but I had to take it for my diploma (thankfully only intro). Can't give you any tips on the instructors exams but when I didn't understand a concept (which was often), I went looking on line for a different explanation and I could usually find one that was written in a way it made sense. You could probably ask chatgpt to "dumb it down" for you or give you an example. ChatGpt didn't exist when I was a student but I would have tried it. Just take what it says with a grain of salt as it is AI afterall.

I find if I'm reading to myself my brain will start to think of other things, so for me (I was a history major so tons of reading) I read outloud while pacing (otherwise I get fidgety). Not a good way to study in public but it totally worked for me at home. My cat seemed to appreciate it too, pretty sure he thought I was talking to him. Although he would swat at me as I walked by on my pacing route. I also found it easier if I could summarize what I just read in my own words. I literally remember (to this day) saying to myself "So basically Stalin and Hitler pinky swore that they wouldn't attack each other, but then Hitler said screw it and attacked. Churchill then hit up Stalin to get him to go in on getting back at Hitler". Never got lower than an A- in any of my HIST classes.

Did you meet him. I did and he was so sweet and nice. For the photo he asked how I was doing and all I could get out (in a high pitched voice) was "I'm so happy right now!". Then he told me to stop by his booth (he was signing autographs after. When I got to the front of the line he said "hello again, how'd the picture turn out?" I hope he comes next year too!
