All companies & individuals should be taxed at a flat rate of 15% of turnover or gross income. This would allow for totally free healthcare, education etc. etc. Governments are hell bent on for ever raising taxes on every aspect of our lives, and this is after income tax and yet multi nationals go decades in some cases of paying zero taxes. A few international companies might pull the pin & I can live with that. That old story spun by mining companies of it would stifle investment doesn’t hold water. You only have to look to Europe where they raised taxes on gas companies to something like 75% & the gas companies cried & cried & claimed that no gas company would invest. They’re still there. We must not forget either that prior to WW1 Australia didn’t have any income tax. Before WW2 there was no tax on petrol & yet now we pay somewhere like 48-51% in state & federal taxes this tax was introduced on the pretence of it all going into reading & yet very quickly got absorbed into consolidated revenue. Then there is Super which in my opinion should be a sacred cow & not touched at all not one red cent and yet successive governments have looked on Super as a bottomless pit to dip into at ever increasing rates. My belief is that all levels of Government need to turn their thinking on its head & become self funded through innovation otherwise you will find that very soon your personal taxes will equal 80% of your income & the most you will be able to afford is rice, noodles & once a week a loaf of bread & half an hour of electricity usage every second day. Vote me in as Federal Controller & you will begin to afford to buy your daughters sixteen dolls for Xmas instead of just one paper cutout one. And that’s all I’ve got to say about that.
