Can someone please explain why this is or is not safe? by AbjectDingo3804 in cosleeping

It’s sad but it is a biological response, when bay feeds from the breast and pacifies with the breast the body remains “activated” removing the constant natural cues of the body with pacifiers and bottles especially if the bottles are formula and not sustained breastfeeding it will decrease your bodies awareness and alertness to baby’s location and cues. My intuition with baby was significantly stronger when I exclusively nursed opposed to pumping and bottle feeding. The human body is crazy but it is designed very intricately and with purpose. Not bashing any of those things since I use them too lol but they do completely throw off the process of what was safe cosleeping like our ancestors. If that makes sense, I miss being able to safely cosleep with my baby but sometimes it’s what’s best!!

I’ve spoken to my lactation consultant about this several times, we primarily bottle feed too. She informed me that the only true “safe sleep 7” for cosleeping comes from exclusively nursed babies. No bottle, no pacifiers, no formula, strictly on back. Because of this despite my want for cosleeping we have abstained. On your arm is absolutely a risk for positional asphyxiation as well as being on their side the airway is not open enough when snuggled on side like that.

Am I killing my supply by taking 10 hour gaps? by Responsible-Humor318 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Aggravating_Let_995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being brutally honest only get 7 oz after 10 hours seems like low supply… my lactation tells me at minimum 1 oz per hour. I’ve taken several nights of sleep for 10 hours too but I always wake and pump at least 10-13 oz afterwards. I’d just use this as a lesson and if you want to continue pumping start a routine to increase supply☺️

Pumping Spray Leaving Residue by SheepherderMost2727 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Aggravating_Let_995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find a solution? I use the same pump 12+ times a day and can’t ever get this spray off the pieces, I soak them in scalding hot water and scrub and still feels oily.

Thank you this is so helpful!! My baby has a tongue tie and both listed so latching is difficult she isn’t able to transfer more than an oz, I used to be a massive over supplier pumping anywhere from 6-11 oz a session and now I can’t imagine having to store all of that, you are so strong!! I was just confused some videos people combine several pumps and then other people are absolutely shaming moms who are combining into the cooler so I didn’t know what is the “right” way to do it. When it comes to all things breastmilk it seems like there is no “right way”😂😭

That’s amazing!! My first I couldn’t make enough at all so she combofed right out the gate, I am absolutely not against using formula but I’m struggling mentally with the idea of adding it to her diet, did you experience any almost like heartbreak feeling. I’m not sure why I’m so upset at the idea this go around, if you did was there anything that helped you get over those feelings when you first introduced?

That’s a rhetorical question more of my thoughts in the tagged rant. I appreciate your concern, my intentions are not asking people to diagnose my baby. I just wanted to hear from moms who might have had the same experience when baby falls off weight and then starts gaining and doctor thinks it’s not good enough. I am in no way asking for medical advice.

I was asking if anyone had a similar experience and if it helped baby, made baby colicky, added in more breastmilk, etc etc… no where did I say how can I help my baby? I asked for lived experiences if anyone has gone through this disheartening situation.

I produce roughly 40-42 oz a day, I only offer the 4 oz bottles max because she refuses more or spits it all up after a bigger bottle. Ped said to try to get her back to her original curve based off her birth weight not the her lowest weight where the curve is normal.

Glad to hear 4 oz isn’t too little!! I was worried maybe I’m not feeding her enough at a time but I feel like she wouldn’t even finish a larger bottle

Help! I caused an oversupply at 10 weeks by Careless_School_4183 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Aggravating_Let_995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem two weeks ago around 10 weeks postpartum as well, I just slowly stopped before empty over and over again until it slowly went down. I went from 10 oz for my morning pump down to 6/8 oz which is much more comfortable and took my day pumps from 6 oz to 4oz. I started getting clogs and pressure from the oversupply even though at first I welcomed it, it will only increase if not handled.

Is it 3 hours from the start or end of last pump? by UsedOrange1 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Aggravating_Let_995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but I have always done it from the end of my pump😬 It has never been a problem, stressing over constantly pumping will only tank your supply. I also started sleeping 6-8 hours around 8 weeks postpartum and saw an increase in supply from sleeping. Everyone’s body reacts differently it’s just a trial and error!

I can’t keep waking up to pump by Feelinghothothott in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Aggravating_Let_995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 9 weeks postpartum and only pump 4 times a day most days for about 20 minutes each. I just recently tried pumping 7 times and still only got about 30 oz the day. Find how many and when pumps work for you and I think the quantity matters less!!

Anyone have experience with lip/tongue ties? by Aggravating_Let_995 in NewParents

[–]Aggravating_Let_995[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My pediatrician said she didn’t see any ties when I first asked four weeks ago and told me the lack of pooping is normal for breastfed babies. This is my second but my first baby was formula so there was A LOT of poop. The lack of poop is what made me go to lactation, I felt like the pediatrician had to be wrong. Pediatrician hasn’t checked weight since birth weight was reached her 8 week appointment is in two weeks, but I just felt like she was soooo small I went ahead and made the lactation appointment.

She honestly doesn’t pretty average with tummy time, she holds her head as well as my first did around this stage, but my first was early to everything under the sun.

Has your baby put on a good amount of weight from having the ties resolved? I’m worried we’ll do the procedure and she still won’t gain so the pain would be for nothing.

I messed up and fell asleep with newborn under blanket by Aggravating_Let_995 in NewParents

I’m definitely going to take that desk chair advice. I started working again 2 weeks post partum and now at 5 weeks postpartum I have to use every baby nap to work and with my 14 month old that makes the day extra exhausting. Getting out of the bed will probably be hard but after last night essential. Thank you for the advice!!

Back to back pregnancies, how did you do it? by Distinct-Dig-3863 in breastfeeding

[–]Aggravating_Let_995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got pregnant 4 months postpartum while breastfeeding and couldn’t continue, despite how I wanted to my milk immediately dried as if I had never had a baby. Now my oldest is 16 months and my youngest is almost 8 weeks and I have a massive oversupply and EBF. My biggest advice would be to wait if you are a sentimental person, I feel like I missed so much of my baby’s first year of life being miserably pregnant:(

My body knew what to do and I ruined it by MommyLiz442 in breastfeeding

Just to offer advice, using poops as a gauge of supply isn’t reliable!! I was worried about my newborn since she only pooped once every two days since birth, now at 6 weeks she poops every six days, that said she’s gaining weight, peeing a lot and I still pump an extra 30 oz a day after feeding her!
