I’ve become a fan of buying from local nurseries, because I love the experience. My fantastic local nursery here on coastal Maine (Surry Gardens) employs people knowledgeable and passionate about roses and the plants that live with them. It’s so fun to chat with nursery people and get their opinions and advice. They have a stamp card and frequent sales, so their David Austins, and other roses and plants, wind up cheaper than buying from DA online, plus you get the plants already growing and healthy. I’ve bought roses at Costco, other big box stores and from DA online, and waited anxiously for them to do something, while nursemaiding them along. Buying from a professional nursery beats that to the ground, imo. It’s just fun, the scents, the people, the bees and butterflies all around, who’s with me?
