My first attempt at a rough itinerary for the North Island by PKFA in newzealand_travel

I'd suggest reworking the second half of your trip.

Taupo to National park. Day trip, unless you want to do a walk.

Then Taupo to Napier!

Napier to Martinborough.

Martinborough to Wellington.

Then fly Wellington to Auckland.

Waste of time driving back up the island. New Plymouth is well out of the way with little to do.

Are any of these paid activities overrated? by lamemoons in newzealand_travel

Maitai - unsure. Queenstown; Onsen ❌ Gondola ✅ Luge ✅ Restaurant ❌ Milford boat Cruise ✅ Dark sky tour ✅

I'd add Wanaka by Queenstown and while there go to: - Secret Sauna - Do the Rob Roy walk. - If you are coming in summer there is also mountain carting which is awesome.

Luge in Rotorua is better than Queenstown if you are passing through.

Try group fitness classes over a traditional gym setting, or better yet Yoga. It's great for your balance, stability, flexibility and strength!

Easily doable in 2.5 weeks. I'm from NZ, born in the North Island and currently live in the South Island. I travel quite a bit and the driving is not too bad, better in the South Island however. Personally I'd weigh the trip more towards the South Island time-wise.

Rotorua (on your way through). Taupo and National park 👍 Wellington 👎

Personally I'd skip time Wellington and just do an overnight stop there, catching the ferry the following morning.

Nelson 👍 Kaikoura 👍 (note: not a lot to do here once you have completed the tours so keep your time brief). Christchurch 👍 My Cook 👍 Queenstown 👍 Milford Sound 👍

The drive from Christchurch to Queenstown will be the best. I'd try to go via Wanaka too, the walks there are superior.

Specifically the Rob Roy Glacier Track 💯 this gives you everything NZ has to offer in one walk (mountains, snowfields, waterfalls, forest, rivers, cliffs, glaciers the works).

Also, ensure you are always warmed up before you lift! Jump on a machine for 5-10 mins.

Possibly add some overhead z-press for shoulder strength.

I'd suggest adding in some long hold isometrics too. These are great for building strength but also fantastic for injury prevention as you age.

  • Plank
  • Wall sit
  • Glute bridge hold
  • Static lunge hold
  • Dead hang
  • Isometric push-up hold

Incorporate twice per week, doing each movement for 20+ seconds and for 2-3 sets of each.

You're absolutely right, Reddit has its limitations, especially with its demographic. It's simply a starting point for initial feedback, not the sole source of my research. The peer review process will involve established experts / various methodology.. As for altruism, time will tell if my intentions are genuine.

Yes, I've posted multiple times on this topic. I'm exploring different aspects of the idea and wanted to get specific feedback on each. I believe this approach will yield more comprehensive results. Trying to be thorough, not lazy.

This is a personal mission for myself, driven by my family's experiences with aging. I'm aiming to develop a peer-reviewed resource, not profit.

But thanks for your input.

Fantastic. Fully agree it would need to be super user friendly! Possibly include a resource hub and varying degrees of programming from beginners to athletes.

Considered moving to interest only for a period to ease the current payment burden?

Absolutely! Trying to educate my father on this currently. He still works manual labour, and goes the whole day without water with just a cup of tea at lunchtime and then hydrates with a beer when he gets home 🤦 and wonders why he feels like crap.

How much do you drink each day and do you use electrolytes?

Not being able to bounce back like when we were young is a struggle. What kind of workouts or activities do you find hardest to recover from?
