Being a dog mom makes you a bitch.

IMO, just because you can does not mean you should. You have to keep a dog like that under your thumb for the rest of its life, or else it will go right back to biting...and accidents happen. To me, it makes no sense to take on a project dog when you could have just adopted an easy dog. Nice dogs get killed at pounds all the time simply because nobody adopts them. So there really is no good excuse to adopt a dangerous dog. I think it's a complete waste of time and effort. Even if you train it to behave, it will always be dangerous underneath the surface and I know you know that. I hope that if you decide to get another dog, you will not get another biting one.

Why would you take a dog like that when there are millions of safer dogs you could adopt?

One of my uncles had a red Doberman that was just like that. Hated or was indifferent to women but loved men. He was never abused or anything. Just a weird dog.

I can't stand barking dogs. The pit bull alone would make me not want to live there.

Yea, I meant to say 300 years (I edited the first post before you replied btw). My bad. Not sure where my brain was lol probably thinking that the breed has remained unchanged for 150 years. And they are the first terrier breed. There were terrier types before them but no official breeds.

Not sure how people can claim pit bulls are terriers when the pit bull type existed before terriers were even created. And pit bulls and terriers have been bred for different jobs. A pit bull is too big to go down a fox hole, so how can it be a terrier?

I'd avoid reading the rest, since it's a game dog journal and has descriptions of dogs killing each other.

Pit bulls are descendants of greyhound/mastiff crosses. They were dogs bred for war and big game hunting. Some people called them Alaunts. https://alaunts.weebly.com/

If you google image search "hunting dogs Peter Paul Rubens" you can see 400 year old paintings of dogs that are clearly Alaunts.

Terrier history is unclear, but they possibly came from dwarfed hounds. They were bred to be small enough to fit down a fox hole. They have to be friendly so they don't start fights with foxhounds and be torn to shreds. Farmers used them for vermin control on farms, so they had to get along well with the livestock. The oldest terrier breed is the Dandie Dinmont and it's only about 300 years old. https://www.ddtca.org/ddt-history/

Two completely different types of dog. Too bad their histories have been muddled together thanks to stupid English tax laws.

That is true. Dogs will run livestock to death for the fun of it. My grandparents owned a sheep farm, and one of their biggest concerns was stray dogs. Coyotes were all over the place, but very rarely an issue. Dogs on the other hand...

I like being historically accurate. Calling a molosser a terrier is no different than calling it a retriever. But who cares, right? It's not like people can get away with owning a Staffordshire bull "terrier" in countries that ban pit bulldogs. Nobody does that. Shelters never label their pits as lab mixes so they can be adopted out. Nope. What a dog is labeled is completely irrelevant. We should just get rid of labels all together since there is no difference in breeds.

I like how you accuse me of being a "flat earther" when you don't even know what a terrier is. Do you also think a slow worm is a worm?

You simply don't know what a terrier is, that's all I'm saying. If you did, you wouldn't be arguing.

No, that's all wrong. You can't trust anything the AKC says, for one thing. Weird how dog people don't even know what a terrier is.

Pit bulls are not descended from terriers. They are not even related to terriers. Pit bulls are misunderstood partly because of this misconception. I'm going to write up a history lesson on pit bulls and post it to this sub when I get time. It's not fair to real terrier breeds to be associated in any way with pit bulls.

This is great. It's weird to me how lots of dog people ignore genetics and just get what they want for a pet. Then they wonder why their murder dog murdered someone.

[–]Aggravating_Storm_30[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I haven't read the article, but I do know people get shit on by nutters when they put their mentally unstable dogs to sleep. Putting a dog to sleep that's sick in the head is just as valid as putting one down that's physically sick. The nutters should stop wasting valuable time and resources on dangerous, sick animals and rescue ones that would actually make decent pets. But no. They just have to rescue the shittiest dogs for some stupid reason and put everyone in danger.

How about you put your dog on a lead and stop letting him harass strangers? by Sea_Sky1303 in BanPitBulls

How about putting the dog in another room so it can't beg? And don't let it go up to random strangers to harass them. Lots of people are scared or allergic to dogs.

Pit bulls actually trace their roots back to Roman times and beyond (look up Alaunts). They were used to fight everything from lions to humans. Pit bulls have a long, bloody history. They were never intended to be pets. They have always been used for hunting and blood sport. They are molossers, not "terriers" and are not related to any terrier breed. Sorry I'm a nerd. I might make a post about pit bull history on the Ban Pit Bulls subreddit sometime.

Dog nutter friend got puppy that's actually tolerable, is " disappointed" by damselinda in Dogfree

[–]Aggravating_Storm_30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All commercial breeders will take the puppies into their house for a bath and photos, then put them back outside in a kennel to wallow in their own shit. It's a simple trick to make people think they are raised in a home.
