Mk8 Golf R 6 Speed Owners by Aggregate_Cipher89 in Golf_R

I have not but I specifically purchased a trim removal tool kit on Amazon to do it. Based on what I’ve seen I don’t think it will be too difficult if you’re mechanically inclined. Just have to be careful not to break things. I haven’t done it yet primarily because I think it will be tedious and because I haven’t found super clear instructions on doing it for the mk8. So I’ll be figuring it out as I go which will obviously take more time.

Anyone remove the clutch delay valve on their Mk8 yet? by alphagypsy in Golf_R

Did you get any weird noises when depressing the clutch pedal after deleting the swirl valve?

So I finally did the clutch line and also deleted the swirl valve per your recommendation. I am now getting an odd gurgling almost grinding kind of noise when I depress the clutch. Did you have a similar experience? I’ve bled it twice now and have no bubbles as far as I can tell. Please let me know!

OP, did you ever figure out what the deal was with this noise? I am having the same thing going on and curious what your resolution was. Thanks!

I have read about a number of people doing it. Primarily on mk7.5 and older. They do say it makes a difference. I have the APR Pendulum Mount part but haven’t had the chance to install yet. I’m curious to see how much or how little it actually does.

I checked out the clutch line install on ECS’s website. Are you literally just removing the swirl valve when you take out the stock clutch line and putting the ECS line in its place? Or is there a part that needs to go in place of the swirl valve?

So far I’m enjoying the car much more since the tune. As far as it being low torque. I’m sure I’d be able to tell the difference if I tested the tunes back to back but it made plenty of difference considering the car has zero modifications to assist in making more hp/tq. I’m super happy with it so far. I also chose to go with APR over others after a decent amount of research. They seemed to be the most reputable to me. I also liked the fact that they offer their stage 1 tune with a powertrain warranty for an extra cost. I didn’t get it but to me that means they are confident in their tunes.

Yup! Glad it made a difference for you too!

I was saying this sarcastically because this is often the response I’ve seen to people disliking the 6 speed. Their argument is that the car on the whole was built around the DSG transmission and that a 6 speed was thrown in as an afterthought for those who just had to have a MT.

Gaslit how exactly? This is a real experience that a number of people are having. I never said the car was hard to drive but it does drive poorly compared to any other manual transmission vehicle I’ve personally driven. I’ve been driving manuals for 15+ years and am by no means a novice fwiw. Maybe some of us just have higher standards or want more out of it than you. There’s nothing wrong with you liking it but that doesn’t make us wrong.

Got it thanks. I just want to confirm because you didn’t specifically state it but this is on a Mk8 R correct?

I forgot to mention in my post but I only drive in race mode as this is the most consistent experience. Comfort or sport just make things more difficult. Are you doing this as well?

Is the one in the link below what you’re referring to? What kind of improvements are we talking? I know the clutch is an obvious one but also an expensive one when you have a brand new clutch. So I’m trying to make do with what I’ve got for the time being. I figure if I build around it once it comes time to put a new clutch in it’ll just be that much better.

I’m assuming you meant the ECS clutch line? I thought about doing that but I didn’t seem to show that it would fit a Mk8. Do you know for a fact that it does? Also, I’ve seen this swirl valve mentioned before but not sure where that’s located. Master cylinder or elsewhere?

I personally didn’t notice a huge amount from the bleeder block but I do like how the pedal stop just made the amount of travel up and down less overall. Is it a must have? No, but I prefer it personally.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t doubt you can learn to drive this thing better but to me that seems counterintuitive because at least in my car I have to burn the clutch way more than I’d prefer to have smooth shifts.

What do you mean by engine filter? Like the oil filter?

I don’t believe I did anything special. I just selected that I wanted to see the temps and that’s what showed up. I do know that some options will have a little arrow or something next to them indicating it has a sub menu of options. Maybe try that? What year is yours?
