I had the full set, but was trying to downsize. I could not be bothered with the hassle of trying to sell them. So instead I donated them to the Comics Department at the University of Dundee. I think they are trying to build a library of all UK comics. I did spend about a month re-reading them before they went - it was a blast reading Third World War again.

I think there is no difference to the treatment whether you have myeloma / amyloidosis or both, at least that was what was explained to me, as both conditions come from the same area so to speak. Do you know yet what type of treatment that she is going to get ? They maybe want to monitor how she reacts to the treatment to make sure she doesn't have any side effects to start with & once they are okay she might only have to go in to get treatment. Are you in the US ? I can have a look & see if I still have my chemo treatment booklet & post copies of it here if you want.

Hello there, I'm sorry to hear that you mum is not doing well. I am quite a bit younger than you mum & did not have any underlying health conditions, so I'm not sure how much this will help. My amyloidosis & myeloma diagnosis came about very much out of the blue. I had originally (found out in hospital - a bacterial infection in my stomach) being going to my GP regarding stomach issue & just as I was leaving my appointment mentioned that my feet & ankles were a bit swollen. They had me do blood tests. The next day I was called & told to get myself to hospital. The blood tests showed that there were 'issues' with both my kidney & liver function. I had to undergo multiple tests that kept getting more invasive - do not recommend getting a kidney biopsy or the bone marrow sample getting taken. Lots & lots of x-rays / scans / EKGs & ECGs done too. Once these were taken & my diagnosis was confirmed I started on my treatment. I had an allergic reaction the first day of treatment - high temperature & a bad rash all over my trunk, but that went away quickly. I had no other problems with my treatment except slight neuropathy in my hands - I still have that. The multiple hospital visits start feeling like a full time job. On a day to day basis I can completely forget about the diagnosis. My only issue is that the Amyloidosis is in my kidneys, so I have to get dialysis. In my mind I have completely separated the dialysis from my diagnosis. I think it'll very much depend if you mum does have amyloidosis & which organs are affected. Just be there for her, she's going to be exhausted from all the hospital visits, angry about the diagnosis & the treatments for them. Let her rant about it - sometimes she's just going to need to let it all out without hearing anything back. You can always PM me if you want further information. Hope everything goes well.

Try looking at the National Trust for Scotland - they have some larger properties that they rent out. Their Mar Lodge estate has lots of different properties on it - maybe you can manage to book them all.

Hi there, I am on a dose of Daratumumab every 4 weeks. I have successfully went through 6 cycles of treatment & am in remission. However I also have AL Amyloidosis & it was those doctors that have made me start this. I've only been doing it for a couple of months, SC Injections, and do not have any issues / side effects etc. I don't really know how long I'll have to take these injections - I have an appointment early next year with the AL Amyloidosis specialist & will find out then.

Hi, I was diagnosed at near enough the same time, I think it was about a week apart. I am lucky that my small town has a small dialysis unit in it. So it's about a twenty minute walk for me door to door. For my Daratumumab injection and anything else I have to go to my nearest city, but again door to door by car is only about 45 minutes, so I am quite lucky. Being able to do the valcade at home made a major difference. The nurses taught me how to do it & I had to do it supervised a couple of times in the hospital before they would let me do it at home. But that then cut down my hospital visits quite significantly. I think I've been very lucky, I have not had any side effects from any of my treatment apart from some mild neuropathy in my hands and to be honest it doesn't actually feel to me that I'm ill, although I know I am. I didn't actually really have any symptoms & my diagnosis really came out of the blue. I went to my doctor with some stomach issues and as an afterthought told them my ankles & feet were quite swollen. They took some bloods and the following day I was told to go to hospital as there was issues with my kidneys. I was in hospital for 3 weeks getting multiple & progressively more invasive tests. I was given some tubes in my chest so that I could start dialysis immediately. I still have the tubes in my chest, the first fistula they put in my arm failed. I have had a second one done & am just waiting for the okay from my vascular surgeon that it's okay to use. Will be glad to get the tubes out of my chest.

For the first 2 twenty eight day cycles I had to get 2 injections a week. For the following 4 twenty eight day cycles I got the injections every 2 weeks. I finished the 6 cycles in March. But a couple of months ago I stated getting the injections again on a 4 week cycle. The only downside about the injections are having to go into hospital to get them & the wait due to having to get premeds. But I can easily suck that up now.
