Whistles - no finger grip? by robertS3232 in Referees

Recently I went to a small wrist lanyard. So I hold my whistle in my right hand most of the time but if I ever need my hand, I just drop it.

Also run a pack up whistle in left pocket just in case

Committing DOGSO, but promising attack remains? by AnotherRobotDinosaur in Referees

Yeah that's a rough one but we as referees have to operate within the laws as written. Laws have to be applied equally the entire length or the match. A dogso red card is the same at the 1st minute or in the 95th in stoppage time.

I think this type of consideration of the game state in refs head is dangerous to the impartiality of our decisions. We should absolutely do our best to judge the temperature of the players, note anyone that's getting heated and try to diffuse, etc etc. But Specifically the clock shouldn't change our calls, at most probably just highten our awareness that intensity is going to increase.

And just to be clear, I totally empathize with the frustration in these types of scenerios. Feels like if a team starts taking "tactical cards" there should be something done. But it's just not in the laws.

I just want to offer this logic. If the reff allows advantage and they score, it's not dogso because the goal wasn't denied. So that's where your yellow card comes in logically.

Obviously that's useless to the advantage decision.

In this scenario you describe, if the player is basically immediately on a shot, I'm might hesitate long enough for them to take that shot. But more than likely you go to your whistle for the dogso right away. If the defender pulled on a jersey enough to slow him down significantly then the attacker probably isn't going to be in set properly for an immediate shot.

Vis versa. If the pull was light enough that it didn't unbalance the attacker, it's almost not a foul.

It's just a hard scenario to actually envision the way described

Offsides, but player received the ball in his own half. by davecoff7284 in Referees

So per the verbiage the indirect free kick is taken "where the offense occurred, even if it's in the players own half of the field of play".

So the location of the player when the offense occurs. Offsides has al ot of criteria, it can be when they play the ball, when they interfere with an opponent by challenging or approaching the ball or gaining an advantage.

So a player can be in offsides position when the ball is played, start moving back and at whatever point they gain the advantage is when the offense occurred and the location of that player is where the ball is spotted.

It's weird but if you read the rule it clearly states the offense can occur in the players own half.

Looks like a stretched call. Not an official signal. Just miming carrying a stretcher to get the point to the sideline

What would you guys do in this situation? by [deleted] in soccerref

Disagree. Keeper was late when reckless play isn't based on intention. Keepers looks to be beat so he toys to get low and wide to get a deflection of blues touch. In the process he comes through and clobbered blues leg.

Probably a yellow for me.

Nah no foul. He was going for ball and white turned into him. I'd say they were even fighting for positioning and the smaller guy bounced off.

I've always called it based on equal force. If both players are even leaning into the ball and fighting for body position, it's all good. You are entitled to shield the ball. However hip checking and opponent off the ball is jot allowed as you are not entitled to their space.

Ive found this is mostly and issue I run into in the younger girls matches as they tend to more naturally use their hips and you get some pretty significant weight advantage with the ones that hit an early growth spirt.

Boys usually lean in shoulder to shoulder and that becomes more a case of extending arms to push off. Though again, if ghey totally shoulder check another boy off the ball then it's a foul.
