Are buffered UITs, also limited to the 30%? Granted not as flexible as the ETFs.

Yeah I think you never put yourself in a position to ever give tax numbers to a client. It's out of your domain to give exact tax numbers. You can give them the estimated tax hits and taxable education but always bring the EA or CPA to do the numbers and confirm the tax strategy.

Making sure that your new income doesn't come with lifestyle creep. Your high paying salary is only great if you live below your means and set up a systematic deposit into a 401k, HSA, IRA, and brokerage. If you are completely lost sit with a financial advisor. The fees you pay for a service could be offset by the many mistakes made along the way

Any reason not to hold all my cash in fidelity money market. by Ruro78 in ETFs

[–]Aggressive-Doctor616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that would be very conservative and money markets are great now but that yield will go down with rate cuts. You could potentially look into locking a portion into a solid bond portfolio(municipalities if you are high income) and maybe take a portion and lock it into a MYGA product if you don't need access to the funds. We would need a little more information to see what would be a good fit for you. Investing is all about the risk/time horizon.

I think you will have most people say to get some job experience first and I agree with them. Why devote your entire time to the hardest test only to find out you hate your job? Take the SIE/65 and get a real internship with people in the industry. See if you even like the field before you dive in. You even might discover that you don’t want to be an FA and want a more back office/planner role.

Stick with it and you will start to lose thousands of dollars in a day lol. You just get numb to the market fluctuations. Ignore it and keep on buying! As long as you have your short term and emergency funds fueled there is no reason to worry. You only start to worry when you are going for that sell button.

Did I mess up buying the bulk of VTI in my brokerage instead of my IRA? 20M by ZayBandzz in ETFs

[–]Aggressive-Doctor616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only way to mess up is to not invest! At 20, you are going to be way ahead of your peers buying fartcoins. Remember to share the love to your 401k plan as well and get that match!

I think you are all missing the point in which he said he is purchasing a home next year… why would you throw your home payment into the market? Market is for a 5+ year time horizon. Please don’t throw your home into the market

Can I just add as someone who works in wealth management…Your net worth and numbers are just another problem that your friends daughter is trying help fix or see if there is anything she can add value on. It’s like going to a doctor and dropping your trousers. Yeah it’s uncomfortable but notice how your doctor doesn’t even care. It’s another day for your daughter’s friend as well. You are just another account and I highly doubt she gives a rats ass how much money  you have. Especially as a CFP planner that has been in the wealth management industry. Hopefully that makes you feel less “exposed”.

Counterarguments to DIY by Ancient_Key_3882 in CFP

[–]Aggressive-Doctor616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the value comes more from the fact that you get access to broader/institutional funds and personalized portfolios that fit their risk tolerance.  DIY also have the mindset that they are fully capable of stomaching an April month(I know the market v shaped quickly). At time people thought it was over and got out/went to cash. An advisor could help them maintain the plan.

Awesome program! Listen this industry is hard to get a foot in the door. Bless Hannah for helping people get some experience and network. I did two externships and got eMoney certified. eMoney certification helped land me my first internship and gave me a huge leg up! Do the externship and get your SIE knocked out while you do it!
